Fair enough. I also don't have access to a large enough vehicle so am not able to deliver. But the frustration was more people arranging to come but then not turning up. A quick message that you can't make it because the person with the van pulled out, or you changed your mind or whatever would be appreciated rather than just not turn up when I've arranged to be home at the time.

I feel your pain. I live north of Auckland and years ago when I was faffing with car bits, I agreed to meet someone from South Auckland in Penrose, more than halfway from my place, but I was selling. About an hour's drive for me. I got there early and got a coffee, about ten minutes from when we were supposed to meet he text and said he couldn't make it.

I replied that I'd just driven an hour to meet him. He either turns up or I'll sell it to the next person. Didn't hear from them. So sold it to someone else who was keen to come to me and pick up.

It's thing like that which make me throw things out or give away rather than sell. Just so much hassle.

In another incident, as well as the larger things I'm also trying to sell a few smaller things than can easily be posted. For one thing worth about $30 someone asked me about delivery so I said I can post for an extra $5 to cover postage (it fits into a $7.20 post bag so not even the full postage). He then asked if I could instead deliver it to Paraparaumu (I live in Lower Hutt) for some "gas money." I'm not sure what he thought an appropriate amount of petrol money would be for making a 100km round trip, but would have thought just paying $5 for postage would be cheaper.

Sure thing I can do that, but "gas money" is $15. Are you sure you don't want it posted?

Cheapskates. TradeMe might be bad but I hear BookFace market place is much much worse.

Yeah this one was marketplace. I couldn't be bothered arguing over a few dollars so just fobbed him off with "I'll let you know if it's still available next time I head up that way" (it no longer is).

The use of multiple common-prefix thread titles so that a number of mailers, when sending you notification of updates, display the subject as "What's something small that really ..." and you have no idea which one you're getting until you click on it.

Getting suggestions for "clever" or "amusing" videos on FB. They're always the same clowns that waste their time trying to amuse me when i have n o interest - I even ty to influence the algorithm by clicking on the "see less videos like this" button - but they still serve them up to me.

Grrrr....

When businesses don't answer the phone or return your message, or reply to website contact forms.

1. I contacted nine different storage places last week. Five haven't replied.

2. I also contacted two main dealers and two independents for some car parts, all whom I have bought from previously. Not one reply. So I ordered everything from overseas suppliers instead.

3. I needed more car parts, so I contacted three wreckers on TM, not one reply.

I understand there are supply issues and business is booming for some, but to not bother with customer service is just poor.

You've probably misinterpreted how the algorithm works.  Clicking on the "see less videos like this" confirms that you've taken notice of it - and they just learned a lot about you.  The best way to reduce annoyance from FB is to use it less (as well as locking down privacy settings and blocking idiots even if they're friends irl).  I find that an average of about or less than 2 minutes a day works for me.

What really annoys me is clickbait on the bottom of news sites that monitor the page scroll position on your browser.  They know you've probably seen that sh*t even if you've never ever clicked on any of it. It seems to make them try harder and harder with ever increasingly ludicrous images and claims, in the ongoing war to try and get your attention so they can get their $0.05 if you ever make the mistake of clicking, just out of curiosity because batsh*t crazy is sometimes intertesting...

The overuse of the word "terrifying" when the person really means something surprising.

Most of the times used for something that would be classified as unexpected but not really inspiring terror.

Usually goes hand in hand with clickbait.

Yup.  The proliferation of clickbait is terrifying on many levels, but if the story uncovered by clicking is a "surprise", then everything is even worse than that.

Many many years ago, my ancient grandmother was very puzzled when I said that my friend's birthday party was awesome. She then wanted to know what was so terrifying about it.
