Gurezaemon:

Many many years ago, my ancient grandmother was very puzzled when I said that my friend's birthday party was awesome. She then wanted to know what was so terrifying about it.

Ah, yes, that's because you said it wrong. What you're actually using is the imported Americanism "arse'm". So if you'd told your grandmother the friend's birthday party was completely arse'm she would have understood.

Shrinkflation!

eg: Carnation (Nestle) Evaporated Milk

Was 375ml per can, now 340ml for the same price!

Recipes which call for 1 can of 'x' now what!

If 375ml specified, hmm 2 cans needed?

Common sense is not as common as you think.

While the shrinkflation is annoying, it won't affect the recipe at all, when they say "x" it just means "somewhere approximately in the region of x", and in particular when it's sized for some can size they've taken a quantity equivalent to a popular can size, not something you need to get right to the milligram.

That our two year old inbuilt Samsung oven has developed a fault where it will randomly turn off. Smith City have arranged a repair which I believe entails replacing the main logic board. The annoying thing is there is no eta for the ordered parts and it could take over 8 weeks to arrive. The turn offs were originally very occasional but they are whenever we are using the oven and we have to constantly check during cooking that it has not switched off. A real pain in the butt.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Having had a Samsung Induction hob fail, and then the replacement fail, I have determined to not buy any Samsung Whiteware again. TVs, phones and tablets yes, washing machines, cooking appliances and fridges, no.

My wife is of the same thoughts. The Samsung fridge/freezer we purchased has not been that great and one of the french doors fell off with in a month.

I've had a good run with LG appliances, but I dread using my friend's Samsung appliances when I am housesitting there.

More shrinkflation discovered when clearing out parents house a while ago. Top one: 150g - dates from 1990's, middle: 115g - from 2000's, bottom: 93g - from 2015, current model is down to 85 (90 when packed)

Be prepared that the 8 weeks could be the earliest estimate. The world wide microchip shortage is impacting everything from appliances to new cars

The Idiocracy-level amount of junk that Outlook for the Web (forced to use through work) layers around your message text when you reply. Starting from the top there's an Office365 toolbar, an Outlook toolbar, a To: line, a blank line for more To:, a CC: line, a subject line, a little mailbox-slot-sized area to type your message, a second Outlook toolbar with the same things as the first one, and then some sort of tab bar with message titles at the bottom. Combined with another Office toolbar at the right and the message list with two more lines of toolbars on top, all of them redundant since they're repeated in other toolbars, the end result is maybe 20% of the total screen space available to enter the message. The rest is unnecessary toolbars, menus, blank lines, whitespace, and so on.

And that's with every possible option I can find turned off. The default setup is far more ghastly than that.

What's annoying me today? Having to work, I think. It's that or just not being ridiculously wealthy and good-looking.

Something else that annoys me today: Headlines saying that Olympic athletes fail to win...rather than stating what actually happens: They have an incredible performance, equalling or bettering their best and finishing close to absolute superstars of their sports.

Anton Cooper in the MTB XC is a classic example - a few seconds off a bronze, up in the medal hunt right to the end and the headlines simply say he didn't have the legs and finished 6th. 5th Equal in a photo finish. Ahead of tens of other riders who were also world class.

That annoys me every time events like this are taking place. The media do the same thing each and every time.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.
