You must go to a weird cafe.  I'm curious how they'd respond if you asked back to them if it's still a long black if it comes with milk.  Also, do they then charge you extra as usually a long black is cheaper.  Maybe they're upselling?

My goto cafe coffee is a long black with a side shot of milk.

It's the closest I could find to emulate my standard coffee beverage. Which is a strong coffee with a shot of milk and a dash of sugar.
My place of employment has a passable coffee maker thing. So I make a double espresso, extra boiled water and a splash of milk. In a large thermal mug. just how I like it.

Beats paying 5$ a pop. I'd be 30$ poorer a day. Worse than a smoking habit

Don't like milky coffees.

Interesting.  If you like a good strong coffee try an americano.  It seems to have a more earthy twist to the coffee which adds to at least the apparent strength.

Freedom of choice / speech / whatever does not equal freedom from consequences. It seems to be very difficult for some people to grasp.

Crappy NZ housing.

Ok our crappy housing.

Having one heat pump in a room where our PC isn't.

But mainly.....being too cheap to do anything about it.

Menulog. Only get takeaways about once a month on average and after a busy day on Saturday we decided to get something delivered. Have used UberEats and Delivereasy before with no issue but noticed a new one called Menulog which only charges $0.99 for deliver so decided to try it. Order arrived quickly but it was wrong - it was someone else's order and only half the items at about the price we paid. Driver told me to take it up with Menulog.

First called the restaurant in case there had been a mixup and the correct order was still coming, and they basically said the driver had taken 2 orders so "not our fault, call Menulog." Did that, and was offered a voucher about the half the value we paid, so I asked to be compensated in full and they agreed to a voucher of that value so was happy enough with that.

After another busy day yesterday we decided to use the voucher, so made an order and got to checkout then got a message that "voucher code does not exist." So rather than sit on hold on the phone I hoped to be able to sort it out quickly via Menulog's live chat and went through 4 different people to no resolution. Despite sending a screenshot showing the error the first one said the voucher was valid at their end and disconnected the chat then the 2nd said “from your chat history it looks like your issue was resolved” and also disconnected. The 3rd agreed to send a new voucher which when it came was the same code as the original one and still didn't work. Starting to look a bit like a scam at this point. The 4th one offered to generate a new voucher, to which I asked for a refund instead as it had been an hour by this point and had no more desire to try and order through them again. So the response to this was that it would be escalated to the “solutions team” who would respond in 24-48 hours.

Not holding my breath on the refund but we’ll see. It was only takeaways for 2 people so I know it’s not a lot of money, but just the principle of not getting what I paid for and then being fobbed off with essentially "sorry you feel that way." They probably don’t expect someone to keep chasing it but if I’d only paid for half of what I’d ordered I’m sure they would be wanting the rest.

We have used them a few times, and had a few wrong orders. It's a pain and like you say, resolution can be a pain. We use Ubereats now, which I don't like since they are so greedy and the food is so much more expensive, but resolution of issues and accuracy of orders is never an issue.

I'd use Deliver Easy if they had a better selection in my area.

Yeah will stick to UberEats and Deliver Easy in future. Only had one issue with Uber Eats where my wife found a hair on the side of something (which could happen with any restaurant), so sent in a complaint with photo via the app, and someone called me within 5 minutes to apologise and they refunded the full order plus a credit on top.

I have had one issue with delivery charges incorrectly being calculated by Uber when they added service charges (which is a scummy behaviour). It took about 6 attempts to get them to credit it, despite being a gold member. I wasn't too happy.

Initiate a chargeback for goods not delivered. Its a right pain in the ... in NZ compared to more civilized countries but its the only way to get action from these useless companies.

Thanks, that's a good idea. I'll give it the 48 hours in case they do respond, then do that.

That I can load a news item from The Guardian faster than I can from the NZ Herald.

What were you expecting for $0.99 delivery? "Hey mate, I'll give you a buck if you walk into this restaurant, grab whatever's sitting on the counter, and deliver it to any one of these addresses" doesn't exactly guarantee customer satisfaction...

They charge *you* 99c. That is not what they are being paid.

As an added bonus, it'll actually be well-written and relevant too.

Yeah, I know, I was just pointing out tongue-in-cheek that this is what you get when you go for the cheapest(-looking) option.
