richms: Thats a good thing IMO, no point shipping broken or incorrect items across the world. Not like I'm going to be buying anything dodgey from there.

That's not a service that's advertised?  So you are saying Post opens the packages to make sure they are not broken or incorrect (how can they know that because when you describe the items for Customs it's only general categories you specify?)

Or maybe they are providing a triage for Customs?

lchiu7: I've used Youshop a few times lately and almost every time the package has been opened at the warehouse. There is nothing unusual about my packages e.g. a case for a Surface Pro 2, a copy of Office 2010 (boxed retail), a Hauppauge USB PVR2 tuner device.

I have declared them to the best of my ability based on the dropdown lists on Youshop.

Anybody else has had this happen to them?
nzpostbm: It sounds like both parcels should've been re-packed. Can you please contact NZ Post Customer Support so they can investigate why the warehouse only re-packed one parcel.

I'm not sure how often this happens, but this also happened to me with my last Youshop shipping - when I shipped a phone! The gap was certainly large enough for it to fall out. Emailed a customer rep and was told the incident would be logged. Surprised NZ Post has to physically open parcels up... what with x-ray machines and all.

While they certainly have x-ray machines in Auckland, it's less clear they have them in Oregon. So I suspect the opening of packages there is sort of a triage when possibly they suspect the declared item might not represent the actual item packaged.

Makes you if that's legal since the package is not in NZ yet and so not subject to NZ Customs law. Maybe some bush lawyer can go look at the Youshp T&C's to see if that is a condition of use?

If you check the YouShop T&Cs @ https://www.nzpost.co.nz/bsa/terms-conditions, it states the reasons for opening parcels at the warehouse:

6. Inspection of Your Parcels

We may, but are not obliged to, open and inspect any of Your Parcels at any time and for any purpose, including but not limited to:

  • inspecting the contents of Your Parcel;
  • assessing the category, or where a Merchant’s sales invoice forms part of Your Parcel, value of items in Your Parcel for customs declaration purposes;
  • assessing whether any of the items in Your Parcel are Prohibited Items or are otherwise prohibited under these terms; and
  • checking any of Your Parcels which arrive opened or damaged at a Warehouse to assess whether items in Your Parcel are suitable for Shipping.

I thought as much. It doesn't really bother me. I have nothing to hide.

I wonder what would happen if the merchant has defrauded us and the package contents were not what we had ordered?

Would Post tell us so we could contact the vendor and complain before the package go to New Zealand?

For a 10% discount try 'westpacdebit'

Edit: appears that this only works with Westpac MasterCard debit cards, funnily enough!

Has anyone successfully bought anything from bestbuy.com, using Youshop?

After placing my order, I get a cancellation email shortly after, saying they can't confirm who I am.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether the China thing will be any quicker than the regular China mail?

Most sellers I've come across offer very cheap if not free shipping from China on a lot of items, with the caveat being it might take a few weeks to arrive. Unless YouShop is likely to be a lot quicker, I'm not so sure on its utility.

Are you guys having issues with YouShop?
I've 3 parcels in the US warehouse but whenever I try to click the damn link I get a "Our New Zealand Post website is experiencing technical difficulties" message.
Anyone or just me?

Thanks,
Damian
