I'm surprised they didn't do one article that its CRASHED, then another that Auckland is enjoying a massive BOOM. The article states both. IIRC a crash is down over 10% on one year.

Its simple math. Sales are down. More lower priced, and thus, more affordable by more people, have been sold, so the median drops.

It's a wonder they didn't say 'Horror as House Prices Plummet'.

The H word is their fave and most slightly baddish things are enough for it to be invoked.

Horror or nightmare. Or some other overly dramatic click bait word.

"Terror as Passenger Tries To Open Plane Door" NZHerald 26April19

I have no doubt a few people got a fright, and the article included statements like "If he had managed to open the door, the loss of pressure and intense cold would have been fatal".
Except they forgot to apply any 'world class journalism' to it and ask anyone with a basic knowledge of physics whether the door could have been opened.
Airliner doors are 'plug type' doors meaning they must be pulled inwards and angled before they will fit out through the hole.
The strength required to pull it inwards against the pressurisation?
In pounds, if the door is 3ft by 6ft against 8psi is pretty easy to work out is approx 20000+ pounds (9.4 tonnes).
Another reason not to pay for the herald (shabby little tabloid).

Idiots. Many a plane and its passengers have landed safely after a critical depressurisation.

No wonder they look at my fabulous physique when allowing me extra legroom traded for my pledge to open the doors in the exit rows.  Oh wait - that's only needed after we've all crashed and died.

In fairness to the Daily Mail NZ Edition that plane door story was just syndicated content like 99% of the clickbait crap they publish.

These days everything is syndicated clickbait crap. I am old enough to remember when newspapers published actual journalism. Oh wait, the paywall Herald is coming to our rescue!

Actually, passengers have IIRC a 90% chance of surviving a controlled ditching in the ocean (dunno the stats for a controlled forced landing, but I suspect they would be similar... the key aspect is *controlled*). So, you wouldn't necessarily have died. And your superior strength could therefore be useful in opening the door (at or near sea level when the pressure is equal) allowing passengers to escape.

This New Zealand Herald looks "iffy". I did some Google searches.

It looks like "Voxy.co.nz" was the source.

When I search for the medical paper the trail grows cold.

Infertility fears: WiFi killing men's sperm, study reveals

WiFi is having a harmful and detrimental effect on men's sperm, a new study has revealed.

According to a Japanese study, further evidence has shown electromagnetic (EM) waves from WiFi devices are contributing to the declining fertility rates in developed countries.

The study is believed to be the first to trial a WiFi shield to help protect sperm from the effects of electromagnetic waves.

Fifty-one male patients took part in the study with each of the men involved in IVF or artificial insemination procedures.

Sperm samples were taken from the men and were divided into three groups, one where samples were not exposed to electromagnetic waves from the WiFi router, one group who were protected by a small WiFi shield, and the last group who were exposed to the waves.

Kumiko Nakata, whose research focus is on embryology and spermatology, said sperm samples from participants were placed near a pocket WiFi router similar to how a mobile phone would be carried in a man's trousers.

Well shucks, I guess my dumbest headlines thread will be half out of business from now on since the herald won't be producing any more dumb ones. Right? Right?
