Geektastic: Diesel Fuel At NPD in Christchurch $1.66

Diesel fuel at BP in Queenstown $1.99

Christchurch has a port, Queenstown doesn't.

its a 5-7h truck ride to get stuff there 35,000L at a time.

might not add up to 30c per/L but most stations in queenstown have the same price which suggests some form of price gouging.

Some Watercare guys turned up to investigate reports of a blocked stormwater drain somewhere nearby and wanted to get into the manhole below the house. However the GIS map shows it about ten metres away from its actual location, which may not sound like much but there's heavy bush down there and it's buried under debris so no hope of finding it unless there's someone there to tell you where it is. They can't locate anything so want to try another manhole on a neighbour's property. I tell them that not only the manhole but 20-30m of stormwater drain, along with a good chunk of two sections, ceased to exist on 30 January, and maybe that's the cause of the reported "blockage".

Can't help thinking that things would operate a lot more efficiently if the left hand knew what the right hand was doing.

5 months is too soon for them to be responding to the section collapse. My bet would be that the blockage possibly contributed to the washout and was reported ages ago. The ground surrounding the pipe was probably saturated.

Sure, that definitely caused the collapse, had engineers come in after the failure and determine that. Good point about the delay in getting it checked, if I'd known I'd have asked them when it was reported.

Anyone know if this makes Watercare liable due to negligence? If the blockage was reported, say, 12 months ago and they did nothing to resolve it...

They protect themselves. I had friends in Wellington have part of the neighbour's section collapse on their house. To an amateur the fact that a council sewer ran through that area raised suspicion that maybe it could be responsible. "Oh no" they declared "it was just coincidence".

Weird
I'd say 100% scam material

There's only one organisation at Ohakea and in my experience they rather definitely didn't hire a random 'international resourcing company' to deliver their IT training.

One in 10 adults said they had been a victim of fraud or deception, up from one in six in the previous survey.

Or now just commonsense to reduce your exposure surface.

I also have a large hosts file

I actively post scams to scamwatch, phishtank, google anti-phish, as well as forward scams to IRD, NZTA, etc etc

I have WOT installed and actively rate web sites on that.

I have a VM that I "follow links" on, and video the URLs as they jump from one forwarding site to the next so I can see who they are and report each URL.

So I am sure as hell not going yo jump on "click bait" headlines/URLs

its just common sense nowadays.
