Senecio:

We're being encouraged to add our pronouns to our email signatures at work, part of our diversity and inclusion agenda. I've resisted it so far.

My personal pronoun is "God-emperor of the Universe and Middle Claw of Justice across the Seven Galaxies".

Please remember to use this when addressing me in the future.

I’ve noticed our HR has been advising us of the pronouns for new staff lately. Certainly saves me from any guesswork later in further communications where I then don’t have to refer to a Sam for example as “they”.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

How much of this is actually genuinely needed though rather than being just corporate virtue signalling? In particular for the medium of email, where you've got the person's name right in front of you, you don't really need to be told that you should address Robert as "he". As you point out there are the odd gender-ambigous names, but it seems like effort could be focused into more productive things than reminding everyone that Sharon should be addressed as "she".

(That's mostly a rhetorical question, not trying to spark a huge debate over it, or at least not in this specific thread).

You must have the same IT Support we do.   They just forward anything and everything on to my team (developers).  Most recently, password reset requests.  It was tempting just to decline any and all of them until such time as someone noticed half the staff were being locked out permanently.

We’re a mega corporate with outsourced IT. I’ve seen the performance numbers for our provider and they aren’t good.

The fact that in ASB World, payees are account specific.

If you set up X as a payee in say your personal account and then need to pay X from your Trust or Business account, X doesn't appear in the drop down for payees.

You have enter X again completely. In each account.

At least they don't charge you to set them up like they used to for many years!

This is a feature, not a bug. Without this it's way too easy to select payments to someone from the wrong account.

And that is definitely something about the new ASB interface that really annoys me, the fact that it's now much, much harder to sort out account transactions than it was with the old interface. Unless you manually go through and laboriously enumerate and rename each account, all you've got is the 00 account, the 00 account, the 00 account, and... ah, the 00 account, to tell you which account something is coming from or going to.

Like so many other pointless makeovers that address no actual problem, they've managed to make it worse than it was before. And like the Windows pointless makeovers, as soon as you scratch the surface you're back to the old interface again.

If I was forced to put my pronouns in my email signature, I don't think I could take it seriously. I'd only take the piss and say my pronoun is Dude.

Ordering something from a Bunnings one removed from the local one because the local one doesn't have it in stock. So they relocate the order to the local Bunnings, sit on it for a few days, and then tell me they're cancelling it because.... they don't have it in stock.

I'm annoyed (mainly out of spite) that Auckland  - which is where I live - is heading towards 3 months in lockdown, which started from one single Delta case and Christchurch, which has two confirmed cases and no contact tracing ability, due to the infected not following the protocols, NOT being locked down.

It's not so much that I want ChCh to suffer, but I'd really appreciate Auckland coming out of lockdown and getting my life back.

How is it possibly OK to have different rules for different parts of the country????

Regarding the pronouns thing I don't belittle those that do it because that's their choice. If people want to that's cool with me and that's their choice, and in some circumstances it saves effort instead of just reverting to 'they/them' because of an ambiguous name eg. Kim. I think it's very easy for those unaffected by it to cast judgement.

However I would say enforcing it organisation wide is a bad idea due to the obvious suggestions here of what people are suggesting for themselves and generalised resistance. Keep it optional for those that want it.

Email from company: Your order has shipped!

What it actually means: We put a courier label on the box.

It didn't actually ship until three days later.
