Is anyone else here using their services?

I seem to be unable to access any WCN site?

Cheers

Yep looks like it. Can't get to www.wcn.net or known WCN sites.

I sent them a email and had no response.

However I note the servers are back up.

I got this email from WCN tonight. Looks like it may be all over for them. If you are on there I'd recommend backing everything up before it potentially goes offline.

When WCN Trust took over management of Wellington Community Net (WCN) it was fortunate in gaining sponsorship from the School of Business and Government (SBG). SBG provided accommodation for the server, Internet connection, and technical support at no cost.

Recently SBG has been sold and now has new ownership and management, and has reformed as the International Institute of Business and Government (IIBG). Their business has also changed focus and no longer uses the high capacity Internet connection previously made available for WCN to use. Consequently IIBG are no longer in a position to continue their support.

WCN Trust have been endeavouring to find alternate sponsors and put long term arrangements in place, however it is going to take a few more weeks to determine what is feasible and finalise a plan.

Unfortunately WCN Trust has just been notified that it is possible that IIBG may need to disconnect the WCN server on Friday 16 August, which will take it off line until WCN Trust can finalise other arrangements.

WCN Trust apologises for the shortness of this notification and will endeavour to keep you informed of developments.

Wonder why they haven't put an announcement on their website. Looks like it is still up today. So are all these websites just going to disappear?

No idea, but it would be good if they posted something.

Hi

Still no word even via submitting ticket to wcn.

Is interesting in that my Joomla klbr.wellington.net.nz site is up an running but when I log into the administrator function - i lose all screen formats and action buttons are not working.
I wonder why?

Was going to try a joomla backup extension like akeeba to bypass the need for phpmyadmin access but that seems no go too.

any ideas how to contact the WCN people for a update?

Look here http://www.register.charities.govt.nz/CharitiesRegister/ViewCharity?accountId=1cf27a26-9034-df11-9281-0015c5f3da29&searchId=06362ee8-98a1-4f65-9125-4e30e355f946

and try one of the contacts there.

I would also be thinking of moving off WCN, I can't imagine its long for this world.

yeh - I have signed up for Openhost.
I migrated my wife there with no issues although she writes her sign from scratch in html rather than using a CMS.

I am just trying to avoid losing my history on the current site at WCN.
It just confuses me why they have left the server running but no cpanel.

Cheers
