I see a news headline today 'Symptom checker phone app launched'

You can view the article here. The story goes a symptom checker app has been developed so that you can check what to do based on your, well symptoms.  However it is only avaliable on IOS !?!?!

I see now that worldwide saturation for IOS is 21% while Android is 70.1% - not sure about NZ only but these numbers infuriate me.  Why not aim for a platform which his a much higher national saturation like the Internet.  With responsive sites there is no excuse not to target Web and mobile together!!  The last example of this happening was that IOS app where you could look at school details based on where you were standing, havent heard about that one again!

I question the original numbers and market demographics. Apple products especially IOS are used heavily in the business market, whereas I don't think Android really is.

Personally, from a development perspective I still see Android as an immature product in the business space.

Sure. But this is not a business application at all. It's consumer and the number of (cheaper, entry level) Android devices around is incredible.

Exactly. I can only think of two reasons to provide information/programs via apps instead of net accessable pages, those are A) profit and B) being able to use the program without internet access. Both great points for a game or something silly, but doesn't make sense for free health info, that will probably need updating. Especially when it's targetted at mobiles and, as far as I can tell, we have pretty good mobile coverage in this country.

Maybe it's because iOS users have inferior immune systems and need all the help they can get ;-P
