Can anyone recommend someone to do a little bit of network cable installation at my place in Johnsonville, Wellington? Cyril did it for me last time but he doesn't do it any more. Prefer cash job, it's a tiny job.

I need a network cable put up from a cupboard through the ceiling, down through some existing conduit, then up into a room (existing hole). I can't easily use premade cables as the holes aren't big enough for them.

If it's possible I might get the phone output from the Fritzbox wired into the home phone wiring, after it's disconnected from the phone network - it's not turned on but may still be connected. I'm not sure if you can do that though, maybe you have to connect a single phone to the Fritzbox.

I would have recommended Cyril for this too, is he out of the master filter / cabling / side jobs game now?

Yeah I asked him first, he said he's doing network design and such now, rather than crawling under houses.

I can put my hand up as a last resort if you can't find someone local.

I am up in Palmy but come down to Welly fairly frequently. Can make a trip with the kit on board to help you out. Next trip down will be in 3 (maybe 4) weeks.

Cheers,
Sam

Thanks Sam, I'm having UFB installed tomorrow and I'm hoping to be able to use it within the next week or so. My PC is wired only, I can use it with my wireless devices, and I don't think my fiance would like me having a network cable stretched across half the house!

I have cable still in place though, so no huge hurry, and if I don't find someone in the next few weeks I'll get in touch.

BTW if your new UFB cable install is coming in @ the same location as the exisiting copper then the install techs can & should put a RJ45 socket on a copper pair, in the hybrid (copper & fibre) cable they will bring in, to back feed from your RGW (in this case a fritzbox) to your existing phone wireing and the external line disconnected.  Then all you need is a RJ12 to RJ12 cord to feed your Fritzbox to your phones

Thanks, I'll show them your post as I don't understand exactly what you mean but I get the general idea.

From our install.  From where the fiber cable comes from - we had a new cable put in than using exisiting cable.  so a new cable into the lounge - behind the TV - next to that was a telephone socket they just feed the Fritzbox to that telephone socket as a ouput than a input so the rest of the phones in the house continued to work.  We did our own single Cat6 cable install from the Fritzbox to upstairs where we have a Network Switch which spreads into the bedrooms.

I can buy and run cat6 cable, but I'd need someone to terminate and test it for me.

Wouldnt they have the gear during install to do it for you? If its all pre run and you have the bits I am sure they would take the 2 minutes to do that

I don't actually have any cat6 cable, I'd have to buy it. They didn't have any in the van either. The guy said if I had the cable in place he'd have done it for me since it only takes a minute.
