A warning for people looking for tech stuff on Trade Me: keep up-to-date with technology and don't always trust what the seller writes.

Check this auction (image links to larger version):

The questions:

Q. How can you connect this handset to the Vodafone NZ network??? I think you are smoking something!!!  posted by: 4sale (35 )  3:23 pm, Sat 12 Jan

I work in the telecom industry , looks like you are technically not keeping yourself posted. You can put an 021 number on this Sanyo 6600 & connect it to Vodafone network. Its called number portability.FYI , I dont ever smoke. 10:20 pm, Sun 13 Jan

Q. A comment more than a question: you can port an 021 *to* Telecom and use this mobile on the *Telecom* network. You can't connect this phone to Vodafone because it's not GSM/UMTS. It also doesn't accept a SIM card so there's no way to connect to Vodafone.  posted by: freitasm (87 )  7:31 am, Mon 14 Jan

I don't know who is the seller, and I have removed his name from the screenshot. But I hope he's not an example of people really working in the telco industry (oh, wait)...

From what I hear, the vodafone CDMA network is exceptional.

Yes, "Wireless CDMA" as NZ Herald defined a few years ago...

Are you a cleaner for a Telecommunications industry building? Because your facts on Number Portability are completely incorrect. The Sanyo 660 can only have a Vodafone number put onto the handset, keeping all services with Telecom. It WILL NOT work on the Vodafone Network

I think the guy was deleting questions or something? I had posted something to that effect and it was removed.

Unanswered questions don't show up until the auction closes... He just decided not to answer the questions because they all showed how stupid - and tricy - he was.

The questions are now showing up.

I think the auction raises a huge lol - a phone that sells in a shop for $199 new with a warranty sells second hand on TM for $179. Proving once again that people assume TM is the only place to buy things cause it'll be a bargain!
