Today police cordoned off an area on Lambton Quay from Willis St to around Johnston St. A suspicious object was found in front of McDonald's.

Business were evacuated, offices emptied, transport diverted, people sent home. A robot was sent to detonated the object and police collected material for analysis. We don't know what exactly was there.

And this is the pearl that comes on Stuff:

"A woman who had been in a building close to where the package was found said she had no idea what was going on. "

A website reporting on the incident proves that it has no idea what is going on?

Hey! That is great news reporting, that is!

FWIW I asked my mother in London and she had no idea what was going on either.

Stuff gets more like The Onion every day!

It's the second bomb threat\scare in as many weeks.

The district court was evacuated the other week due to a bomb threat.

At least this was a simple job though and dealt with relatively quickly. I haven't seen any details on the device yet but hopefully will soon. It'll be interesting to see its dimensions/construction and whether or not there was a bit of an over reaction.

Much smaller, the paver it is lying on is a similar size to house brick. Reported to look like a bomb, it looks more like a small electric motor from that blurry image.

Hamilton Gardens were evacuated yesterday after an anonymous bomb threat also.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.
