I need a quick/dirty auction site to put up on my own webserver. Does not need to be fancy - just registered users with email authentication, only the admin needs to list items.

Using trademe/ebay/sellmefree etc is NOT an option.

Any ideas?

It seems that while there is boatloads of open source solutions for nearly every task on the planet, auction software is a seedy back-alley in the world of software.

Basically I need to run some (relatively) private auctions, that the whole world won't be stumbling across.

There aren't many e-commerce-type software on Linux that I know of...

Sourceforge.net is a good open-source software site, but not really full of good projects (e.g. quite a lot have died or abandoned).

Here is a link to the search I did for you: http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&type_of_search=soft&words=auction

Haven't tried that but worth a shot.

If just adverts are OK (no bidding) I can help you, currently experimenting with www.carhouse.co.nz .
Install Joomla CMS and then have a look here: http://www.joomprod.com/

Let me know if you need help.

Tony, have you tried http://www.phpauction.org/ ?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I don't think Tony is looking for something to compete with Trade Me, rather something he can run himself for his own purpose

Link dropping your own site on your first post isn't well regarded around here.

Maybe you'd like to introduce yourself in the introductions forum and post a link to it there?
