So glad I live here in little ole NZ...........

http://edition.cnn.com/2016/07/07/us/philando-castile-alton-sterling-reaction/index.html

Listening to live stream of police there, reports of more shooting and some idiots trying to set buildings on fire.

The question is how long? How long before they will do something about all these shootings and gun related problems. NZ doesn't have the best rep for gun related incidents either.

Several outlets are reporting three to four officers dead, ten or eleven officers shot. One person in survival type gear is shooting.

For some additional context here's what the original protest was about before the shooting started:

Alton Sterling:

Philando Castile:

Nothing will be done about it. There will be another round of hand wringing and genuflection before business as usual (more mass shootings) carries on.

Karma, In response to killing of Philando Castile Minnesota police shooting. Peacefull demonstrations is not working, it was a matter of time someone would take action against the police. I would expect more action against police from some of the calls to kill police videos being posted about.

This is a terrible tragedy. It is terrible to be black in America and to be in constant fear of being shot by a police officer at any time for any reason. It is terrible to be a police officer and to constantly wonder if every car you stop in the line of duty may be your last. The whole mess is just terrible. With everyone in the country going around armed to the teeth I do not see any solution.

It is a tragedy but nothing will ever end well until the citizens realise that through inaction and lack of accountability things won't change.

It's unbelievable that NO ONE in power has the balls to start action and end with the segregation and racism that is rampant in that country.

The Congress, Senate or President cannot stop racism. They can act against it but legislation cannot change attitudes.

And of course it assumes that they WANT their attitudes changed. If they prefer to live that way, I am not sure that is anyone's business but theirs, really.

One thing is for sure: shooting policemen in the US is very unlikely to cause less hostility...

I specifically didn't mention these institutions because I know well they can't stop through legislation. But they can through education and attitude. Power doesn't mean executive and legislative only. It means influence too.

But Trump said that if someone else had a gun they could shoot the person with the gun who was shooting at the person who had a gun who might have been pointing it to someone who was reaching for a gun to shoot the person who had a gun in the car to shoot the person who was hiding a gun...

Give them all more guns, more aggression and sit back on the sidelines and watch the powder keg go off..

I arrived in Australia to start a new job two days before the Port Arthur massacre. While things in Australia were never as bad as in the US, I was very impressed with how quickly all political parties got behind major gun law reform. Maybe things will change in Murca when several senior members of the NRA have their children killed in a mass shooting. Maybe, but probably not.

This is America. It all stems from the dark ages of slavery. Nothing has changed. No "treaty of waitangi", no recognition of black lives, no apologies, and every time a black life is shot by a white cop for no good reason or no reason, nothing happens, so really nothing's changed. The only difference between now and then - mobile phones with video capability.

Their attitudes affects others then it is others business. Racists and bigots don't keep their attitudes to themselves.
