Here's a place to post your tacky Christmas decorations.

"Tacky" requires effort and time.

For example, the Trump Christmas tree is tacky: lots of gold, and political slogan and scenes. It is "tacky" because it required a great deal of thought.

Something that's pathetic is not tacky; it's just sad.

I am a big fan of the blue and silver combinations on Xmas trees. I can't wait to get ours and have the house smelling of fresh pine!

It's right up there with frying bacon smell.

Silver is traditional because it represents the star that the wise men followed.

The color blue is often associated with Mary. In medieval times blue dye and paint was very expensive, so reserved for important figures.

Last year one of my erstwhile colleagues complained that we weren't doing enough decorations to beat the RAN team, so I bought a whole bunch of pink princess party stuff from the $2 shop and put that up everywhere. It was ... festive. He stopped complaining.

Also, it turns out the RAN team were very boring. JUST SAYING.

Don't move to Japan. They do it in a big way.

The best Christmas my wife and I had together, was the one we spent in Tokyo. It was magical. Despite the fact most Japanese don't celebrate Christmas, in the same manner, we do here, they decorate and do all the trimmings as well as anywhere else.

The decorations, the Christmas carolers, the lights in the trees. They even gave us xmas stockings with our names on them hung over the mantle.

It was very memorable for all the right reasons!

Right, but they export it all, and don't celebrate it, which seems to be his main issue.

We are on holiday in the US. The day after Thanksgiving, boom up go all the Christmas trees, lights, etc. Shop staff are wearing Santa hats and there is Christmas muzak playing everywhere. I asked one girl if she had to wear the hat and listen to the music all the way through to Christmas, "Yes" she said with a smile,"unless I kill myself first".

I will give it to the 'muricans though, they sure know how to dress a Christmas tree well.

Edit: Can't quite make out whether the Trump Tree had a "Make Christmas Great Again" streamer on it.....

That's a great idea - go where all of the tacky christmas decorations - and most of the tacky and non-tacky crap given as presents - are made,  by lowly paid children - rather than completely unpaid Santa's elves.

Cheers

My brother (who lives in the world's most perfect year round climate near San Diego) covers his house and "yard" with all manner of murican Xmas tat - stripey candy canes, Santa sleigh with reindeer, plastic snowmen - the whole 9 yards. It's like Christmas With The Kranks. Without any snow. And a swimming pool. And baking hot SoCal weather.

Kin ridiculous.

Pathetic? Sad?
Perhaps some people can't afford to waste heaps on this stuff.

Or don't care especially.

The fact that there is a tree and a present, presumably for a kid, is the point.

The rest is commercialism.
