Topic # 226179 24-Dec-2017 10:00

To cut a long story short, I'm not a customer of Spark, nor do I really know anything about Xtra. In fact, I live in Scotland. However, I am being harassed by a person who uses their services, and so I was wondering if you had any tips on how to deal with this nuisance. Here is a bit of background information...

Earlier this year, this guy signed up at a forum and posted spam, using the identity of somebody else from a not too dissimilar site. I suspect he is someone I know from forums I posted on, well over 10 years ago, as he kept posting on places with the names of administrators I recognized. This person (and many others like him) has a grudge against me, and I was the victim of online abuse for a very long time, until it ceased for the most part.

After being banned from that first forum, he soon returned with another profile and made benevolent looking threads, as troll bait. Unfortunately, because I didn't know it was this person, at first, I was lead into a trap. He then started following me around other sites and uploading avatars that appear under his aliases, but I know the people featured in the avatars are people only I know, from films I am in.

He actually found out I've got a filmography on The Internet Movie Database, because I sometimes do film work mainly as an extra, and he went there and constantly added fake posters for films I'm in, or created several IDs to reply to topics that usually only staff or long term members respond to, pretending he was offering support. He also subscribed himself to every film I'm in, which gives users email alerts. I knew it was him anyway, as he has unique handles, and he had used some of the same IDs elsewhere. He also stole YouTube videos I had online and added them to torrent sites, because he knew I'd either delete them or privatize them somehow. I've not found any working links regarding these videos in a while now, but I think it's him that put them there. In addition to this, he has harassed me at similar links on Wikia, Wikipedia, the "Get Satisfaction" IMDb support forums, some gaming forums, as well as forums concerning mental health, relationship advice, and whatnot. He just keeps registering dozens of accounts, and finds me anywhere and everywhere he can, and causes grief. He also got me banned from a forum, too; I was there for a good 5 years, but he knew there wasn't any moderators around anymore. So he posted harassing messages, plus graphic porn (I don't think you want to know what it was either) and he threatened to keep it up, unless I was banned. The owner then banned me, along with him, just to please him, which totally defeated the purpose of me being a member. He also sends me password requests.

Once, he edited on Wikipedia under his own IP address. It is hard to find working proxies for Wikipedia. A lot of his accounts are now suspended and tagged. Many of the accounts he harassed me with had prior edits on New Zealand related pages too, and one IP address he used is linked to Xtra. I've sent at least two abuse reports, but nobody has replied. Now, since nobody has even responded, I'm a bit stuck here on what to try next. Has anyone had to deal with a troll like this before, and can offer any advice here?

This is a bit blunt, sorry.

Right now, you have nothing more than personal suspicion based on a bad experience. I suspect it is very likely that a large portion of what you consider evidence is nothing more than coincidence. I also suspect you have nothing that truly links each instance.

If you have an identity, and solid evidence (not suspicion), NZ has laws that can potentially sort this.

Remove your real name from your Geekzone profile. I found your IMDB profile within seconds. If I encountered a similar situation, I’d take a break from internet forums for a year or so.

OK; I wasn't aware I had my e-mail address visible. I've never used forums operated by Geekzone before. Usually, it's vBulletin. IPB. Etc.

Your email address is not visible. However, your name is.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

I had no idea that was optional. When I signed up, I was asked for my name.

Anyway, I edited it out.

I think you need to build a bridge and get over it you don't have evidence

Did you respond to the posts on the forum? I suspect you got yourself banned for responding to the troll so the troll won

Yeah. I replied back at him a lot, and even told the moderators what he was up to. They didn't like me anyway, yet I did them no wrong.

This is probably half your problem. You have no reason to trust any online service, so why give them identifiable information?

Well, I don't like putting my real name and other identifiable information on Twitter and Facebook type sites either, but Facebook disables accounts that have fake names. Most people that use message boards to do with videos games are normally creepy losers just annoying random strangers for kicks.

I'd rather use a pseudonym than expose my name and pictures. However, I use Facebook for networking, so people may get suspicious if I try to rejoin groups after removing previous profiles. I always end up coming off Facebook because I just don't like the people there. You just have to message someone you once knew who is now totally different, and you get blocked or discredited so openly. It's like they don't see you as worthy of taken up even 5 brief minutes of their precious time. I don't even really see anybody from social media in person anyway. I really don't know how those running Facebook are able to keep track of all this stuff that their members get up to anyway. Maybe they have some sort of new auto-flag technology that indicates whether they think someone has an alt, and it forces these people to confirm who they are in case they are dodging i.e. a ban or just using multiple IDs.

I certainly don't like putting my real name on SW related sites. I'm a single guy, so I don't know how people look upon that kind of thing, but I think a lot of the women promoting their business on those type of escorting sites for example, are shady characters. Half of them lie about their "services" and use fake photos. Like, you arrange to meet a Canadian chick called Lucy. She claims to be a brunette with X, Y and Z details. You get there...and it's noticeably not even the same person, and she won't kiss you, or let you do this, or that. It's so awful. God!

I had somebody on another forum say to me that he was a drug user a long time ago, and had known lots of ladies such as working girls who were dangerously addicted to hard drugs like heroin, and their pimps were friendly with him. He said that he is clean now, but he is aware that they did anything to get more money. One person even kidded on she liked this guy who was a client of hers, so he grew attached to her. He basically tried to be a big hero. She made him feel good about their association, so she could entice him to keep paying her cash. From my understanding, the guy was sort of being fleeced. Now, I guess he wasn't paying for anything other than intimacy so she technically wasn't totally scamming him, but it's still quite deceptive for a lady to pretend to like someone as a person, because they are lonesome and naive. But I don't like giving away my real name, as I once went to this BDSM venue, although I'm not really interested in certain aspects of BDSM at all. Once, I was spewing about personal issues on a forum for punters, and this "mistress" grassed me up to the owner of this local BDSM dungeon in my town, after I gave away too much info. Anyway, I saw a woman there twice not long before that, and of course, I commented about it. They're usually not nice women that operate in these places anyway. They are clearly misdandrist sadists, and highly rude. I've been mistreated by women before who then denied seeing me altogether. It's a shame, but you may sometimes pay £150 because you're a bit lonely, but just end up feeling like a dork. They smell that you're a loser, or 'special' or something, so they do it all the more.

I've even been abused by support workers. I've got a mild form of autism. For 2 years, a male worker I had sent me emails winding me up, because I was trying to find an ex I hadn't seen or heard from in a long time, and another support worker let him know about this stuff. He confessed it was him, but the emails I kept getting from him between 2008 and 2010 were highly offensive. She eventually did meet up with me, several years ago. All she did was scam me and mistreat me, while screwing around with this other man. Then not long after that occurred, I got into trouble over a few female support workers that blew things out of proportion, when they realized I had a thing for them. Their managers removed them from my support rota because they knew I was fallen in love with them, then they said for months that they were still my workers, but they said they were just needed elsewhere, when this was false. After a while, I got into serious legal trouble over it, as I realized I was lied to, a lot. Then I got remanded in jail for being arrested, and when I sent apologies, that was a breach of the court's sentencing, so I went back to jail. People in jail actually thought the way I was shafted by people employed to care for me was ridiculous.

I'm not a big lover of social services, to be honest. They even conned me into ending my tenancy as well, saying I had 'rent arrears' and the council gave me a version of the story that was way different from theirs (I was bailed to my family's address for months before I got an outcome of a CPO and a heartbreaking eviction from the company's supported accommodation). My sister's ex killed himself about a month ago, as they made him feel so depressed and isolated. My nephew lost his father as a result. And I've signed a lease for a flat, and I think they're going to be sending housing officers there to probe. They say it's to help me get settled in, but I hardly believe them.

But, yeah. Too long, didn't read, I know. You have got to be careful who you trust nowadays.

Go easy guys, as he has mentioned, he's on the spectrum.

Just some advice, detailed posts like the one above are only going to give a troll ammunition. It's probably best to refrain from such posts, especially posts with such personal information. It might be best to shift your "special interest" away from internet forums, and just channel that energy into a new interest.
