That's a crazy amount of time for a forum to still be as active as this one. I've learned a ton here, from many people. I tend to mostly lurk, but I wanted to say congrats on 15 years of service to all of us that use this for tech support, deals, friends and even some arguing sometimes.

Here's to 15 more!

Thank you! Below is a copy of the email I just sent out:

It was 10 January 2003 when I first posted a topic in our forums. Fifteen years later, 10 January 2018 we count 99,300 registered users, with 227,500 topics created and 1,935,000 replies posted. Our users sent each other 410,000 private messages. We sent out more than 21 million email notifications over all those years. More than 235 million page views since we started counting (in January 2005).

We had epic discussions. Drunken replies at night. Telcos, banks, government, retail industry representatives posting to help users. And more than 2500 banned users (we're now a much quieter bunch than ten years ago).

If you visit the Geekzone Dashboard you can play with some data extracted directly from our database and Google Analytics. You can find out what discussions had most replies and which subforums were most active in a given year, who received most votes, what browser is most used on Geekzone, which countries most visited the site and more (remember to filter per year to compare and see how things changed over the last 15 years). Check it out here: http://gkz1.co/1TccqBA

Over the years we had 14 moderators. All this wouldn't have happened without their help: @bradstewart, @chiefie, @cokemaster, @gehenna, @jevvy, @michaelmurfy, @nate, @nety, @rscole86, @sbiddle, @scottjpalmer, @stu, @tonyhughes and @xpd.

Many companies supported us directly or indirectly - through services. software and obviously advertising. Many thanks to Datacom, HP, Microsoft, RedJungle who provided us with services, software and equipment over the years. Thanks to all companies who advertised on Geekzone, sent review samples, provided products to giveaway and sponsored many Geekzone Pizza evenings and Geekzone IRL meetings all over the country. Thanks to all individuals who represented their companies on Geekzone, helped our users and gave us with the best service anyone could provide.

Your participation is very important to us. Thank you for your support over the years.

Remember to log into Geekzone (desktop) this Wednesday 10 January to receive an anniversary badge!

Congrats! And thanks for the link to the Dashboard data - lots of interesting stats there, including the browser stats and how they changed over the years from IE's dominance, to Firefox's comeback, through to Chrome's dominance. Also - good to see the Krapi Cable Congestion post made the top 10! Lots of fond memories..... lol

Enjoy GZ very much. A great resource to have access to. Made me go back to my first posts here in 2005.  The launch of 3G on vodafone. Shame JohnR is not around...

I have learned so much here over the last 15 years, and it has been great to have lots of opportunities to meet the regulars in real life. Back when I first joined there was no Facebook or Twitter, hardly anyone had broadband, TV was still analogue, digital cameras were unaffordable, and I think at the time I was the proud owner of an Ericsson T68!

Here's to the next 15 years!

I was wondering who was first.... awesome.

And the T68 was a great piece of kit, but you hadn’t lived until you filled the memory of the Nokia 7650.... and only then learned Symbian had no functioning delete subroutine that would clear the crappy flash memory being used. Bricking a device just be using it.... ahh those work stories ;-)

Really ?  That means I joined only 7 days after you started!  Think it was when I was preparing to move to NZ from UK :-)

Awesome sauce.. I'm just looked and I'm coming up on my tenth GZ anniversary later this year, really doesn't feel that long!

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

Glad to say I would be one of those lucky 2500 who got banned in I think around 2005-2006, and then returned in 2007, great forum with so much valuable information.   I congratulate you MF!
