My biggest is when they fight you when you are have to do something for their safety / well-being

Like when you are trying to change their nappy and they arch their back and throw themselves around or put them in a car seat or carry them across a busy road.  Then when you are finished they sit back and smile / all happy again.  It was bad enough with the first child but having to do all this again with the second.  I just hate it.

Teenagers and sunscreen.

Sitting back and watching them make the same mistakes you did, but wanting them to learn from them rather than bubble wrapping/helicoptering them.

When they escape from the basement and I have to round them up and lock them back up...

Having to listen to childless adults pontificate on what you and other parents are doing wrong, and how child-rearing should be done, while simply having no idea of the realities and difficulties of parenting.

Similarly, reading/hearing the rants of misopedists.

STFU, I reckon...

Seriously, I was the best parent in the world. Until I had kids :)

I have on more than one occasion apologised to my sister for my judgemental and quite frankly out of line "recommendations" on how to parent when I was younger.. Crow isn't Good Eats no matter how you cook or season it :)

If you are still changing nappies, enjoy it,  they have no idea what they are doing... just go with the flow

Its when they older and they start to push your buttons just to get a rise out of you, or they start beating on their siblings to drag you in to intervene....

Looking back at  have trouble getting them in the car seat is really small beer.

At my school they are pretty good.  They are very concerned about their appearance and how they are going to look when they get older.  They regularly get spray tans rather than sit in the sun to tan.  (not all of them I will give you that but way better than when I was a teenager)

Or the screaming at dinner time because you cut the food the wrong way or didn't understand that ohh ohh meant more rice from the left hand side of the bowl rather than the right hand side.  Or wanting to eat food off your plate but can't because you have covered it in hot sauce.  I can't remember the last meal that didn't have screaming.

But I understand that continues through the teenage years as well.

Attempting to apply one to the other (either way, doesn't matter) in more than nanogram quantities. Imagine the horror of said sunscreen actually being remotely visible.

I hate the fact that sometimes I am too tired to be the great parent I want to be, or that I say something I shouldn't because it's the end of a massive week and my patience is thread bare and someone is doing something not as bad as the response you give them, but still not great.

Product idea: Add sunscreen to deodorant (we all know teenagers love the slather that stuff on)

Mind you, I was very proud of no 3 son the other day. We were driving along minding our own business and saw a Tesla coming in the other direction, and out of the blue, without any prompting, he pipes up and says 'rich bastard*'. Brought a tear to my eye, chip off the old block, etc.

*Apologies to all the Tesla drivers out there, no offence intended, but its such a sweet story.

Dare I press post, should I, oh bugger it...

I'm a bit older - some of our friends are grandparents.

Please shoot me if I ever become a grandparent and do what some of them do - whine about parenting ability (or more precisely - perceived lack of) by sons/daughters in law.

I think I've got an example slouching downstairs on the Xbox at the moment, who's an exception to that particular rule.

...not literally on the Xbox you understand, slouched on a beanbag in front of it.
