I understand they're a business and they're the monopoly, but they are really starting to make it hard to use their service now.

Yes - they invest in people and infrastructure and software etc, but this is getting so expensive it's starting to make Facebook Marketplace look attractive.

Not to mention the ongoing morphing of the website into an unusable non functional mess.

Yeah mate I agree, trademe's website is a horrible user experience these days.. the design is incredibly slow, buggy and is an absolute last resort for me now

It's actually quite interesting when I look back on my trading history throughout the years and how I went from a very heavy user to hardly using it.. my last two purchases on it were May 2020 and October 2019 !

Shame there are so many scam artists, reprobates, and time wasters on there though.  I keep my FB trades local so I can see what I am buying before handing over the cash.

TM has also become bloated with so many traders/drop-shippers.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Also I'm not sure if this is new (it isn't very clear what's new from the fees page) but for in-trade sellers the Auction withdrawal fee is the higher of $3 or the applicable success fee, if the item were to sell.

For the most part, they aren't that hard to avoid, more of a nuisance. Restrict a search to NZ only removes a lot of them. There are some very fundamental user interface/experience issues though which make the new morphed site so difficult to use
* Inconsistent look/feel across pages
* Inconsistent menu headers/footer/sidebars - the original header/sidebar combo remained the same regardless of which page you were on, so menus were always accessible and in the same place. New site places menus/controls in seemingly random places and changes colour from red to blue as it sees fit
* Incredibly slow page load/render times ( @freitasm could teach them a thing or 3).
* Page elements so large you don't see enough search results on screen without continual scrolling up and down. On a laptop, the menu headers can take 2/3rds of the page
* The combo of lots of scrolling, and multiple inconsistent nested menus (that even lack feedback you have activated them) makes for a very difficult user interface to learn or use

Looking at this, this change only applies to in trade and not the casual 1 or 2 time seller every now and then.

Thanks for the mention. Yes, people seem to think "features" means "we are giving so much more stuff, it doesn't matter the page takes 15 seconds to load".

Agree. It also flips between the new and old interface a lot because a lot of the functionality for sellers is not available in the new interface or the app. Really bad experience imo

I liked the old interface much better. "Newer" does not always equal "better".

I haven't received the TradeMe email about fees increase - yet.  Last week I wanted to get rid of an old office vacuum cleaner (replaced by a hang-me-down from home) but unfortunately couldn't find any bags for it which I thought I had bought more of having just thrown out the last full bag.  Decided to give Facebook Marketplace a go for the first time.  Within 20 minutes I had three people contact me.  One came straight back to me and they collected it within 30 minutes.

I flagged the item as sold pending collection.  I then made the rookie mistake of once it had been collected I deleted the listing as got the impression people just leave sold items showing for ages.  That night found the bags for that vacuum at home so went to message the person back to say she was welcome to collect the bags next time she was passing.  Alas deleted listing = deleted communication so can't get back to her so felt bad.
