Every American either has a shotgun or semi under their bed or both.

England is number 3 on the list has had 4 days of violent riots as people start to lose it. Israel is number 1 on that list has had massive protests. There is revolution in the air all over the world except in the US. America is still in deep denial which is still the first stage of the Awakening. This denial will be wiped away when the dollar collapses. For now the economy is still functioning with food and fuel available. Americans still have the illusion of wealth and normalcy. They still are stuck in the false left right paradigm and think some other sock puppet will turn things around.

When the dollar collapses, all American illusions will collapse with it. Deep denial will turn into deep anger. The violence I expect in the other 3 areas on the list and all urban areas in the US, will make all other global riots pale in comparison. America is deeply infused with arrogance, denial, narcissism, drugs and violence. There is no other society that I know of that has the degree of intensity and combination of these factors.

Kaos36: Every American either has a shotgun or semi under their bed or both.

Not exactly true. 6 out of 10 American households do not contain a gun. Overall, the individual ownership rate is about 3 in 10.

I'd be more worried about Switzerland to be honest:

In the right to bear arms debate, pro-gun Americans point to Switzerland, where almost every adult male is legally required to possess a gun.

I'll be completely honest, I don't understand the ins & outs of this stuff, and haven't even read the article and it could well have some good points.

BUT... I'm immediately suspect of an article on a website where all the hyperlinks direct me to more articles from the exact same site and uses George Carlin videos to make a point (conspiracy sites often do that for some reason.)

The Swiss Militia  is mainly used for peace keeping missions. The country is neutral, however everyone is required to serve the defence force for training purposes.

According to law, a neutral country won't participate in conflicts outside its territory but is more than entitled to fight to defend any invasion to their land.

Because it's a militia they have to keep the firearms at home, ready to defend their country if needed.

It's very different from American crazy rednecks wanting to keep firearms at home. I don't see any external force invading their country right now.

Yellow is not red. Pro-gun Americans's argument is invalid.

I don't understand what's up with so many conspiracy theorists and believers showing up lately. Is that why we, as a country, are supporting the deployment of Ultra Fast Broadband?

Seriously, don't come with "everyone needs to know the truth", because in some cases, the "truth" is deception and serves no one, except the people spreading said "truth".

Next they will say Freemasons, Dentists and Pet groomers have a joint plan to dominate the world. There, I think I will just create such a web site and make a fortune.

It doesn't help that "the truth" is coming from someone who calls themselves "Silver Shield."  Some anonymous Joe Sixpack with a web server and an opinion, or a political scientist or qualified economist? No way of finding out on that site. (Gotta love the ads there though!)

Pee-ewwww!   I don't blame you.  The site has a pungent Westboro Baptist Churchy smell about it.

Most of these sites take valid information then present it in a way that makes it look invalid.

There are serious issues ahead:

- the economic and social affects of peak oil and the end of a century or cheap energy.

- same again for climate change

- same again for the consequences of dismantling manufacturing in the West and down-scaling the wages and opportunities for literally millions of workers. This has seen tax revenues fall and was ultimately a major contributor to the global financial crisis.

- same again for cutting taxes for those who still have high incomes at *exactly* the time when public revenues are most stressed and people generally are seeing their living standards eroded.

- same again for the consequences of a decade of people facing declining living standards using the equity in their assets to sustain an unsustainable lifestyle...again contributing to the global financial crash.

Yet our own leaders deny all of this and pretend it isn't happening. Here in NZ Steven Joyce wants to give his crony mates at Fulton Hogan $8billion to build roads we won't be needing when petrol is $5/litre 5-10 years from now. But he won't build the much cheaper rail alternative we WILL need when more and more of us can't afford to drive as much or as far. Instead, he's trying to puch up the price of public transport to make us stay in our cars to justify his roads.

They are vandals....

None of this is conspiracy stuff. The consequences of these things are being played out in the newspapers every day, one way or another.

To all of this we must now add the loss of public confidence in leadership: political and business. In the UK the bankers screwed up to the tune of trillions. They got bailed out and the man in the street now has to pay for it with reduced public services. Before that we had both the Labour Party and the Conservatives happy to invade Iraq on what clearly amounted to lies at the time. The mysterious death of weapons expert David Kelly didn't help. Now we see Rupert Murdoch's deeply unethical media has been breaking the law and colluding with top police and been protected by by frightened politicians.

You can hardly blame the man in the street for maybe feeling like a mug who has been played by the unethical criminal class who lead his society.

But you DO have to pay attnetion to what's going on.....or you do risk being roadkill on the highway of life in the years ahead. Everything points to big trouble....and the hedgehogs who pay no attention will be fearful and confused.....Too many people think if they just ignore everything they won't have to suffer any of the consequences when things go sideways because it's all someone else's fault. Those days are ending and in a hurry...but they don't know that yet.

Things will be much better for us all if we pay attention, talk, think and work together. But we're generally lazy, selfish and thus functionally stupid....so my hopes aren't high.

It's easier to blame everyone else than accept one's problems are the product of one's own inattention and ignorance. There comes a time when we can't really blame the politicians anymore. It's the voters who failed.

Given the scale of the problem ahead, my words here are actually quite restrained. If they appear extreme to anyone I would suggest that is because you don't understand the full picture....and how very limited our options are now. Start with "The Long Emergency" by James Howard Kunstler. He more or less predicted what we are seeing today back in 2003....and the future he lays out is unfolding every day that goes by.

If you love your family, you'll at least pay attention. If I seem a bit melo-dramatic it's because this isn't a "laugh and forget it" moment in history. This is serious......and NZ has exactly the wrong government at the wrong time. They haven't got a clue....but to be fair, neither do most of the people voting for them.

They are all in for a shock. What a shame the rest of us will have to be consoled with "We told you so...but you wouldn't listen".

Also conversely to the OP's thinking if you're an opportunist looking to take advantage of a riot I'm pretty sure you'd think twice if you knew you faced the potential of being shot by the store owner.

Why would I want to take an opportunity to riot? Far from it I would be one of those who would board up the windows bolt down the doors let them beat the crap out of each other, not my fight.   What I was getting at is what this American had to say on what could lead up to a full on riot and the 5 points he made were spot on imho.  I only brought it up cause of what happened in Britain last week.
