I was recently quoted $600 per month by Lightwire for a /28 (16 IP addresses) delivered over a UFB circuit. The $600 was for just the IP space with circuit/data charges on top. I know there is pressure on IPV4 space but this is obscene in my opinion.

Has anyone else experienced this?

At that price you should knock on APNICs door and get an allocation (they still allocate up to /22).

Are you sure it was just IPs they quoted you $600/m for?

We're selling them at $2/m each so I'm not sure where that figure comes from.

No I've been charged $5 per usable IP but I've not got any sites requiring 16 :)

I'd look elsewhere.

Are you sure it was just IPs they quoted you $600/m for?

We're selling them at $2/m each so I'm not sure where that figure comes from.

The quote was $600 per month cheaper with no IPV4 space beyond the single WAN interface one. By way of (pointless) consolation I was offered IPV6 space for free.

Previously I have paid $1 p/m each but that ISP does not offer VDSL or UFB.

For about $300/Month (You pay a fee each year but you get the idea) you can get a /22 if needed straight from APNIC so $600/Month for a /28 IMHO is a ripoff

I can't justify a /22. I only need a /28 right now and maybe a /27 later. My personal preference is IPV6 deployment - and I already have IPV6 connectivity - but until it becomes ubiqutous I need to run both.

Shop around, that's a bit on the high side, but get used to it, that's where we're going with IPv4

Unleash, Vibe and Voyager are all companies I have personal experience with and trust as providers, they all offer both VDSL, UFB and IP's considerably cheaper than that.

I'd suggest going back to them and clarifying this, i'm sure they would clear things up. I think if you asked directly if the $600 is just for an IP allocation then you might get a full answer.

(Given APNIC has run out, except for a single /22 (1024) you can get per APNIC membership.)

On the grey/white market? ~$2500AUD/USD or so? Once you get your final /22 allocation from APNIC, that's it from APNIC tho, so to the grey market!

Don't forget you still have to pay annual APNICS fees which is calculated on how many IPs you have..

As unbelievable as the price seemed, I had this discussion with them at the time and it was very clear:

1. UFB fibre with 1x WAN address - $400 per month

2. UFB fibre with 1x WAN address and /28 - $1,000 per month

Yep that's insane! My current ISP running out of IPV4 to allocate, but the price they charge for a /27 is only $100. Roll on IPV6!
