itey: you could just get an RBI connection for peak time and get a lowish cap (e.g. 15GB) and then keep your dsl connection for offpeak downloading. You've got decent offpeak speeds so queue up your downloads for then?

But the unfortunate guy has to pay more. And he isnt happy because bob down the road doesnt.

at the end of the day you want the same service that people in bigger city's/towns are getting but you dont want to pay more for it?

unless you/your town are prepaired to pay more/fund an upgrade i dont see the status quo changing.

and dont say "we shouldnt have to pay more" its not a valid argument

This has been covered before, we do pay more for a service that has deterorated especially in the last twelve months.  I'd be happy to pay even a bit more for a service such as Boost VDSL but that is not and will not be avalible in Outram unless Chorus upgrade the Exchange similar to what the are going to do on cabinets that are feed off our exchange.

Wireless RBI is not an option due to price $90 for 15G of data (as an example).  There are some other options but they require additiona expenditure for families on a budget.  All we want is inclusion in the UFB / RBI (DSL) areas.

Which I think is a fair request, especially as the surrounding areas with lower population density are covered in the RBI DSL plans.  Money is being spent invested anyway as part of the UFB / RBI rollout and it would just have taken some parameters on a spreadsheet to have been tweaked slightly during the planning stages for your village to have been covered.
Maybe Outram wasn't included in the RBI DSL as because you had broadband already, but the real-world quality of your service wasn't a parameter used when RBI DSL upgrades were being planned.

I realise this assumption of the planning of RBI is probably wrong, but neither is it as simple as others are saying that you, as a community, should pony up all the cash required when neighbouring, less populated, communities are getting RBI DSL.

If only it was as simple as a tickbox on a spreadsheet. It isn't.

Haha great entertainment from this thread tbh - ive installed alot of the rbi cabinets and done exchange upgrades in many areas in the north island and all i can say is that your a vit out of luck - ive done big rural cabinets to the smaller ones (with 30 odd customers working from them) alot of these smaller ones already have fibre to them so not really hard to upgrade - upgrading some of the cabinets havr not been done due to needing more gear added in other exchanges to make stuff happen (DWDMs etc) which is quite expensive - but if your currently on an asam ive heard chorus are upgrading alot of the backhaul to these cabinets in the near future

Please be advised there a NO cabinets feed off your exchange. There are cabinets in your exchange area that of course adopt the exchange area name.
Back in the POTS days that exchange only had a NEAX in it and covered the area. DSL cabinets are fed from the fibre that feeds your exchange. Its at the end of the line.

Edit:

Im going to be kind to you and add insult to Injury, The cabinet that your exchange feeds off for fibre is getting VDSL. on corner of Dow and Granton road.

Cheers!

Ahh thanks more info much appreciated, so when those cabinets are upgraded we will still suffer congestion.

Yea I knew about Granton Rd... 10 houses within 800m for awesome VDSL performance, whereas 600m around the Outram exchange would encompass the WHOLE town and then some, 282 dwellings...

Tim
P.S. sorry about spelling mistakes in my last post IE doesn't do spelling, flaming POS.

Whew almost blew me away with those speeds there Tim!!
No that wont congest you further. Those cabinets are not congested hence selling VDSL2. The weak point is between the exchange and the cabinet.

mmm

So 10 houses around the corner of Dow and Granton Road are already getting better interwebz that 282 dwellings in Outram just less than a couple of km away and they are fed from the fibre connection the goes into OUR exchange...surprised

Makes the point of my petition even more important.  It's like the pizza delivery guy driving past your home with deliveries saying sorry no you don't qualify for a delivery here.... zoom.

Yep, Due to it being on the main fibre line for south of your area feeding another bunch of cabinets it is logical to do so :).

Please do be advised your exchange is at the VERY end of the local fibre loop. Your exchange is at the end of the road.

Can I email you some images showing you this?

Something I forgot to ask - have you mentioned this to your local MP? What did they say (just curious)?
