That sounds like you've got a master filter already, but maybe an old or faulty one? VDSL installs are now free and I believe include a master filter install, so I think if you did sign up for VDSL they would come and install a new filter for you... which in theory should take any wiring issues out of the picture.

Hmm, bit of a tough one though... If it were me and the prequal is saying you can get it I'd probably go for it in your position. Even just the increase in upload throughput is a real boon IMO. Though it might be worth checking with someone at your ISP if it ends up worse than ADSL can you switch back without major penalties...

Or.. if you feel like a bit of DIY you could open your ETP, see what's in there, and maybe connect a cable direct from that to your modem and see what the attenuation is like that :)

Well, we had a power cut last night (why do these things always start with a power cut!?) and there are some interesting developments on my line today!

Bear in mind that my SNRM mostly sits on 11dB and I have only seen it drop down lower a couple of weeks ago when I noticed it at 3dB less than expected!  Pretty happy with the error rates so far!

For the record, here's the recent sequence of events so far:

Date  Sync   CRC   SNRM  SNRM Tweak  Notes
26/6   49500  0.20  12        0                    Start of 'stock' experimentation
6/7     50500  0.15  11        0                    5min manual power cycle by me
8/7     50000  0.10  11        0                    2hr power outage
9/7     50000  0.10   9         0                    No resync, but SNRM dropped by 2dB over 18hrs

So either my line is being evaluated for a possible 17a profile swap, or there's something funky going on somewhere!

It's interesting (or possibly just coincidental) that the SNRM drop happened at midnight and then 18hrs later there was another drop (multiples of 6).

Your attenuation has changed that much? Anyone from Chorus been doing some work outside?

Yeah, down 2db lower than normal at the moment! No Chorus techs that I've seen.

thats quite a drop considering theres been no work done, your internal wiring clearly isnt the contributing factor.. and after a power cut?

maybe someone pushed the cabinet closer with the pole?

LOL, sorry man, my brain is mush today, no attenuation change, only an SNRM change :)

well now it makes a bit more sense, it isnt uncommon for straight after a power cut lines to sync a bit better in my experience.. lack of crosstalk?

Ah, gotcha. The lower SNRM is something I've seen before but I've got no idea what causes it or what it means...

For sure, but the main point here is the drop in SNRM; We've seen this before a 17a profile swap before...

Probably :)

The previous max attenuation to be swapped to 17a was 7, so it's a long shot for sure!

Well, the 9db SNRM didn't last long...

I'm going to leave it for another 4-5 weeks and see what happens.

Hi all. I'm new to posting to threads and am sorry for any confusion I may cause. I'm struggling to understand why sync speeds of my current adsl2+ connection do not closely reflect what I believe is a good line. I'm switching to vdsl2 connection next week so thought it might be helpful to in the process share a before and after connection sync rate. If someone could help me in understand why my connection isn't possibly better or could tell me  why my line isn't good,
I would really appreciate it.

So my current adsl2 connection reports the following information:

DSL Connection
Link Information
Uptime:1 day, 5:18:10DSL Type:ITU-T G.992.5Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:1,016 / 15,677Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]:1.37 / 18.87Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:12.6 / 0.0Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:0.0 / 2.5SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:12.7 / 12.0System Vendor ID (Local/Remote):TMMB / ----Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote):BDCM / IKNSLoss of Framing (Local/Remote):0 / 0Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):0 / 0Loss of Power (Local/Remote):0 / 0Loss of Link (Remote):-Error Seconds (Local/Remote):12 / 0FEC Errors (Up/Down):0 / 0CRC Errors (Up/Down):6 / 12HEC Errors (Up/Down):0 / 70

What I don't really understand is my attenuation is very low from what I know this would indicate a very good sync rate of around 20mbps. However, because I don't have a very good understanding of other factors/information displayed by the router I can't be sure what could affect this.
Thanks in advance
