I agree, the 32k is long past it's use by date; but as the majority of Chorus base well exceeds this, there is little demand to challenge this.

Edit: I'd be happy to sign such a letter / petition on this particular matter to the ComCom though :)

We can't stop this thread, it has been a great debate and it would be great to be able to add outcomes as they come to hand later.

Interesting read the UBA Service Description, the only real difference I could see between BUBA and EUBA was the addition of a small sentence including the words "best efforts" for the EUBA but it still has the same minimum level of service.

If, or as some say when, our petition to be included in the taxpayer funded UFB / RBI (DSL) upgrades gets rejected I will write to the Com Com asking them to revisit the terms of the UBA Service Description to ensure they are revised in line with modern expectations of capability of the interwebz, hows that...

My suggestion is you have it the wrong way around - I'd be writing to the Commerce Commission first.

Even then i doubt his service would even get close to a revised minimum.
Its fairly decent. .9Mbp/s isnt bad on a congested node.

UBA and EUBA share very little in common.

Even the speedtest you have posted here will be well and truly above any mandated minimum speed the commerce commission would ever be likely to increase the current (rather pathetic) 32kbps speed to.

I'd suggest 128k, or if lucky 256k would be a mandated minimum (if they even changed it at all).

I know the current congested results are above the regulated minimum, that is why we're not petitioning to have that minumim raised or sending letters to the Com Com, we're petitioning to be included in the UFB / RBI (DSL) upgrade areas.

If all that Chorus need to do is work on the backhaul, as has been sugested previously by others, and enable technology already installed in the exchange (great ROI there... we'll chuck this gear in but can't use it) why didn't they respond with an appropriate sugestion or request a formal discussion with the community? Probably because they would have to spend their own investment money not that of the taxpayer funded UFB / RBI upgrades.

This all comes down to you wanting someone apart from yourself or your community to pay for upgrading your service way beyond the regulated minimums, and in the context of regulated RBI coverage already available.

You still haven't explained why you believe someone else should pay for this.

I live in Palmerston North. If you have a look on Chorus's website on where the boundaries for UFB are, you can see that quite a large urban area to the East of the Manawatu river ain't getting UFB. So it's not just small towns and rural areas.

Everything in the city area is getting UFB. Now the little 150 houses to the south are not getting it as seen here:
