NZtimbo: Yea it's a shame even informed posters on these forums get their m's, M's, b's and B's mixed up...
I don't expect there to be any support from outside the community, but there is. We've more than a couple of hundred signatures, knocking on doors I just ask "have you seen my petition for better broadband?" and they respond "yes where do I sign" or "already signed it". There absolutely is a lot of frustration out there as quite a number have comented that the service has noticeably deteriorated in the last year.
At the very least with everyone out there signing it should be easy to get support to abandon Chorus...

eXDee:sbiddle: My main issue with Clare Curran is that she jumped on the Chorus bashing bandwagon when it was topical because she believed Chorus were ripping people off, but now wants Chorus to invest in unprofitable areas at a time where there earnings and CAPEX have now ben placed under considerable uncertainly due to the significant financial impact of the Chorus bashing campaign. You can't have things both way in life.
She said Chorus responded there were no plans to upgrade the exchange at Outram, as it ''cannot currently justify the investment''.
Ms Curran said she rejected that. ''It's not really a business case. It's actually a state-funded programme.''
^Except the RBI is state funded too that covers the area. As mentioned if its poor value, then that should be bought up as the issue. And the UFB program its not entirely state funded, its subsidised and chorus still need to make money.
IMO this is just all a charade by the MP, unless Labour is going to announce a policy where they throw more money at the UFB program for outlying areas that didn't make the cut, this is just pandering for votes and looking like they are 'fighting for the little guy' type thing.
Anyone who doesn't have their head in the clouds about this knows if a town this size is to be considered, so does every single other small town.

Based on your comment that people aren't willing to pay any more it would seem that they don't want to abandon Chorus. Other options are there, but nobody wants to pay for them.
quickymart: My thoughts too. "Abandon Chorus"...and and replace them with...what exactly?

This is why this thread has turned into a joke and can't be taken serious anymore with comments like that,
NZtimbo is only interested in his own broadband connection here as advised by myself and others ' Me me me "
