Interesting, looks like its all ready to go in the North Island then.  I wonder what the hold up is?

So anyone else had over a hour (98 Min) of no satellites found?  Since 5pm.  Christchurch location

Good thing I kept my backup ADSL service...

I have as well, 30 mins of no sattelites and 30 mins of beta downtime, hopefully a serious upgrade is going on.

Yes, North Canterbury, started around 3:20pm, have three connections though (ADSL, 4G, Starlink) with automatic failover, so still fully functional. Still beta, so not unexpected.

The loss in the early parts of the outage is actually worse than shown here, had to fix the router so that it wouldn't automatically route these pings over another connection in certain conditions.

I'm surprised a fibre cut in north Canterbury between rangiora and chc is affecting starlink stats...

Funky routing with other connections/ stuff? That or the ground station is closer than you think and suddenly offline too.

Maybe they are planning an expansion for the country.  Repositioning satellites?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

The ground stations are connected over the Vocus network, and that has redundant paths, so a fibre cut shouldn't take them offline?

However, the times I do get a brief connection the latency is lower which seems to indicate it is to a satellite that is further north and connecting to a ground station in the North Island.

Doubt it. As in, Starlink is not built up of geostationary satellites that have a set "place in the sky".

I was looking at Starlink Coverage Tracker the other day and large parts of NZ was without coverage according to the Starlink Coverage Tracker. If that is reliable then I guess you can have situations where the current satellites are in positions where there sometimes won't be any coverage for certain areas.

Probably not a good idea to think you can get 100% uptime from a Starlink connection at the moment.

The Startlink system is not complete yet. And they are in no way stationary satellites. They are in low earth orbit and move about a lot.

Just confused - it's reading like you are associating the across the board issues incl starlink as since that time

Has been a cut since then that is still being hunted, but like you say should only be land based connection. So pay to check how much it's actually falling over and how often its trying the land connections? :) I'd expect 100% via starlink, and maybe some stalls on the 4G while it's being slammed about now, but still produce the same stats starlink has since install

Yeah, they have moved their constellation around not too long ago.  I remember over at /r/Starlink, a lot of the folks in Central USA were complaining of similar outages, prior to a large southern expansion.

Yes, can't expect 100%, but coverage is actually pretty good at the moment, and when not in a fault condition I'll only get a few seconds per day of no satellites. What parameters were you using? To match real-world you need to set minimum elevation to 25' and dishy tilt to -20' (20' S). Can use the prediction on the site to show coverage, and as an example I have 100% coverage for the next 6 hours:

Not associating at all. Didn't say anything about being related to the fibre cut... ;-)

The inbuilt dishy stats http://192.168.100.1/statistics shows it coming up for ~30 s periodically and often have lower latency as well during these periods. Dishy rebooted itself 269 minutes ago, and since then is reporting 230 minutes of "no satellites" which gives an indication of uptime versus downtime.

When you login to the app you get a "Your area is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating and will resolve as soon as possible."

Have targets for monitoring 4G and DSL connections routed appropriately and they are going fine ;-)

Looks like Starlink service back up.  After over 6 hours of outage no improvement to latency for terminal in Christchurch.  Pings to CHCH,100ms.  Auckland at 90ms.

Download speeds still at the fairly consistent 250-300Mbps range.

That does smell like some ground resilience somewhere... Despite starlink meant to be a wireless solution not relying on fibre ?!?! Rather odd co-incidence?

Jointing was in progress with services coming back since about 7am with other routes congested so flakey. Still dead at home.
