im looking at the chorus coverage map and that address says:

Network capability

Broadband > 20 Mbps (with the right modem and plan)
Broadband > 5 Mbps

so VDSL is avaliable at that address

All of Kingston shows as VDSL2 on the Chorus Coverage maps.

When I search for 226 Kent St, Kingston (which is the same property) it correctly finds:

NETWORK CAPABILITY

Broadband > 20 Mbps (with the right modem and plan)

I suspect they are still using their Thompson Speedtouch modem too (would that even work with VDSL?)

Having looked into this a little further I actually think there is an issue with the overlays in that area in CCM (which is a coverage tool that isn't public - the public website uses the same data). It shows VDSL2 coverage everywhere in town, but shows no ADSL2+ availability.

when you sign up to a plan they generally give you a new modem that will work, your just locked in to a 12 month contract

you can also ask your ISP for a prequal which should give you an estimated speed for the location, so you get an idea of what you could expect when on VDSL.

as part of it they will also send a tech out to install a dedicated VDSL jack point (VDSL only no phone) and a master filter/splitter, to help maximise your speed. this again is generally part of the 12 month contract and doesn't cost much extra.

So is this something like an oversight of some sort that can be rectified? Or is it a physical limitation that the site is just reporting on incorrectly.

My sister is pretty high up in Spark and I would have thought she would be able to get things moving if it was possible... but at the same time - I think she just used the public coverage tool like anyone else.

Well, she is a Spark employee who has recently been giving the go ahead to move to Kingston and work from home so she will always be a Spark customer regardless.

Im thinking that if she is still using her Thompson Speedtouch, that her line must be provisioned as ADSL.

So you reckon she should get a tech out?
