Nope, all their handovers are in Christchurch.

As someone who's on the 30/10 and got shafted by them not following Chorus's lead who upgraded everyone on 30/10 to 50/10 this is a hollow 'reward' for customers.

What do you mean by this?  Are you saying Chorus are going to build their own network?

 

 

The post 2020 regulatory world for fixed line services will potentially be very different from now and at some point will probably mean unbundled fibre services.

 

Chorus don't need to build their own network, they already have extensive fibre assets in Christchurch, particularly in key business areas. Post 2020 they will very likely be able to use these to compete directly with Enable.

Which is good for Chorus in general but not in other LFC areas. Still Chorus have some pretty competitive offerings for Business in other LFC areas, with fixed price installs under 1k

So, those on 30/10 and 100/20 and 100/50 get a speed upgrade for free. Cool. What about existing customers on 200 plans? They will want  a free upgrade, or the price to reduce to the 100 plan which is by virtue of this offer, now a 200 plan. What is a generous and nice offer, it does have a can of worms component.  

 

This is covered in the press release... The 200/20 LFC offer price will remain unchanged and Enable has committed to working with RSPs to agree a migration plan for those connections to the new cheaper plan (or indeed to a 'gig' plan instead). Each RSP will figure out themselves how they handle migrations.

Unless you've run a large ISP and are experienced in the issues around migrating customers between plans, especially with external parties involved, PLEASE refrain from offering your advice about how this could all be done in 30 minutes. (That comment is to everyone, not you specifically!)

All new Voyager Christchurch customers joining on the 100/20 plan from the 1st July will receive double the broadband speed of 200 Mbps at no extra cost. The migration of existing customers will also start from this date.

Looks like its going to be a 200/20 plan according to their comments on FB.

Its a shame the didnt bump up the upload to something like 50. Wonder how long it will take before people saturate their uplink and complain about not getting 200 down.

I asked Bigpipe if they are going to pass this increase from 100/20 to 200/20 on to their customers and if or how their pricing/plans will change.

The response...

Bigpipe "For our 200/20 speed, we offer UFB Pro which is $99 per month. If yo signed up for a 12 months contract with us we can give you a free bigpipe modem that will best suit your fibre connection speed."

Me "But if Enable is increasing the 100/20 to 200/20 at no cost to you, are you not going to pass it on to your customers? That is what you have indicated to me. Voyager has announced they will pass it on."

Enable is changing the price it charges RSPs. Whether and how much RSPs change the price they charge you is up to them.
