I know no matter how bad I think my / our evening speeds is someone has it worse... My personal issue is that our evening peak time speeds falls to 10-15% of our night time speeds due to congestion on the Chorus network and has fallen over the last year or so.

The latest TrueNet report, linky, brings my point home, I'll quote just a little bit...

"almost two years of the minimum compared to maximum speed percentage is plotted. Urban performance has improved by a slight margin overall, although an earlier report shows that for some ISPs it has improved a lot.

Rural ADSL however, has significantly declined since December 2013 when it was already much worse than Urban ADSL performance. Should the trend continue, many more users will find their Broadband connections almost unusable during the busy periods."

I'm looking forward to the Public Meeting on Monday to see who steps up and who hides away for our discussion with the community.

This post is the post that keeps on giving...!

Just to bring things back into reality for a moment and back into first world problems:

Living in west Auckland, we pay the same rates (since super city) as the rest of Auckland, but have to pay for our own rubbish bags (the rest of Auckland does not)
We also have no inorganic collection, it's a pick up and pay service (the rest of Auckland has theirs collected for free...)

You do not need to goto 'rural' NZ to get third world service and pay more for it, happens right here in Auckland every day

I feel so abused.... :-(

whats incorrect?? Rates are value based...This is universal throughout NZ
i.e I'm sure your house in Takapuna is worth a fair bit more than mine... it's not the end value I'm talking about.

What I am saying is we do not get the same service as you... your rubbish collection is included in your rates, ours is not

i.e house in West Auckland Council Valuation $500K, rates are exactly the same as a house on the shore house with CV $500k...
the difference is you get your rubbish etc collected as part of those rates, we pay an extra premium above that

Weighing in from 'South Auckland' (was Franklin) if my house was worth $500k I'd be on the same rates, and I have to pay for bags, AND raise you on NO recycling pickup... I have a 15min trip to the nearest "Recyle Station" to even do my bit to keep this country Green... For the same rates too!
