Thought I'd jump in here as well.  Chorus just started digging in our street, on the same day as the council turned up to reseal our road, right before school starts just down the road from us, on rubbish day!

So it's the 3/11 - no sign of trucks or diggers around our street, so they might be done.

All path and land damage repaired and reseeded with grass as needed.

Spark site still shows end of November.

Got my letter from Chorus on Monday. w00t.
They say they are starting the fibre laying in about two weeks and hope to be done before Christmas. I suspect that will be the quickest part, because their site still show March next year for availability.
Still excited though. There is Purple spray paint on the roads around our area - is this the colour Chorus uses to designate where they are going to be digging/trenching?

They use sensors to locate the cable feed. You will see them dig holes, and feed fibre into that from big wooden wheels, they will where they can, feed cable in and pull it through underground to another hole. You will then see two red thinner cables sticking out of each homes berm, to be replaced by a labelled thingie. This is for Enable, but I magine the same for every network provider.

It will take weeks for that to turn into a RSP capable connection.

Good question.
I spotted purple spray "<-- CHOR. FBR -->" (or similar) on a nearby street.
Is this good news?
The Chorus map says:"UFB deployment dates for your area are still being developed".

Purple Paint is what's used for Chorus Telco stuff, but I wouldn't get too excited - we use it for all cable location and marking, so it's not indicative of anything more than SOMEONE is doing SOME SORT of work that involves excavating a place that has Chorus Services installed.

Basicaly the purple marks are those sprayed down to show where the existing Copper/Fibre/ducting systems are laid / to be added will be red for power (if not overhead) / Yellow for Gas (if any) / Green - water & council services / and the white ones will be the construction markings (what they need to install where)

When its all marked out - if they have to trench or drill then they will cut out pilot holes and run in the mutliway ducting (the big green stuff) - then connect up individual service leads for each residence to the big ducting (these will stop either in small round pits or be buired at the section boundarys [after they are tested])

I have been checking the Spark website daily since the 13/11.

Today I checked - AVAILABLE.

HUZZAH.

Signed up for 100Mbps Fibre install ASAP. So will see how long it takes.

They are quite happy for you to transfer from Ultra VDSL to Ultra Fibre - send you a new modem and everything, no contract break fee or anything.

Have signed up for unlimited for now - will see if there is any dirty traffic shaping.

Where does all the dirt and other excavated material end up? The local landfill?

Depending on what the local authority will except as refill it may be recycled, concrete crushed & used as infill etc - but most of it ends as landfill of some description or another.

Does the resident have any say over where the fibre should enter their property?

It would be easiest to have it come under the rock wall at the opposite end of my street frontage to the driveway.

I think the first attempt is to use the existing ducting that is used for copper then they try the other options - depending on how elaborate ones request is then they might wave the cost or give you a quote for a custom install.
