There's one here:

Live Starlink Satellite and Coverage Map (satellitemap.space)

If a hexagon doesn't have a satellite in it there is no coverage for that area until one moves in to it???

JP5:

Does anyone have any idea what constitutes an area of 'contention' for Starlink? i.e. If I'm in Northland, am I competing for bandwidth with all the users in Auckland or is it more local than that?

A standard Starlink satellite covers an area of around 460km across,  the exact boundary will vary depending on which orbit you are covered by at any particular time,

but suffice to say, there will be times that those in Northland will likely sharing capacity with those in the Auckland hinterland,

The other magic number if 20 Gb/sec which is the rough bandwidth capacity per satellite ... divide it by 100 customers and if you are all online you get 200 Mb/s each , divide it by 1000 and you get 20 Mb/s each

Anyone on the lesser service noticed Wifi Calling change?

Interested in the lower option, and use very little data at current site, but would like to retain consistent calling as there is 0 mobile coverage in the area of install

I'll be at my parents later this week, so can test then.

The speeds will be good enough for anyone not downloading 25GB fortnite updates or large ISOs :)

I have a FortiGate behind startlink deployed in the middle of the Manawatu and am able to use a site-to-site VPN to manage everything behind CG-NAT

TBH if Starlink had an affordable price for the hardware ($399 is still too high) and a public/static IP option then anyone who can't get fiber this is the way to go.

Even better...... if Starlink was a wholesale product (like the LFCs) then RSPS could re-sell their own service...

Does the Noel Leeming Actuated Starlink Standard kit include the old Gen2 dish, whereas from Starlink direct the dish is the Gen3 Standard dish (non-actuated)?

Mike Puchol did some interesting modelling of Starlink capacity a while back.  There are certainly a number of ways SL could divvy up the bandwidth, but I guess we'll know more when a significant number of subs move to the new plan.  Most people locally seem to be moving to the new plan.

There are a few deals to be had on the dish.   At Noel Leeming you can normally get a discount on the dish with a card such as: Motor home, Gold card, Farmlands, CSCBG etc (currently around $326 with the discount) .  Last I looked, SL were selling refurb dishes for $199.

You can get a refurbished dishy with a full warranty from them for $199 currently.

The official map for availability (and congested areas) is here https://www.starlink.com/map

The one at https://satellitemap.space/ is an unofficial and speculative map based on NORAD satellite tracking data.

The government is offering a full subsidy for satellite hardware costs if you can't get good broadband otherwise.

Thanks for that @coffeebaron . Did you happen to record the 'loaded download latency' for starlink by itself? ( Hoping the 1226ms above is mainly caused by the 4G, and not by the SL deprioritisation)
