webwat: Ask your ISP if they can get telecom NOC to investigate the congestion, there may be some interim fix they can do.

Thanks Webwat,

Two people from Xnet have responded to my issues on the Xnet forum http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=65&topicid=81800 (after getting no response from the helpdesk for 6 days) and have said that "your backhaul issue has been escalated to Senior Technical Support at Telecom Wholesale and I've requested an update on the situation"

They have also said that by default my service willl still be on BUBA (not EUBA) after the ADSL2+ upgrade in September. Does this mean I'll still be using one of the the 2 Meg backhauls or the Gigabit one?

I still can't understand why another customer on the same exchange has no issues with VOIP quality and I do?

Regards Allen

Is that the existing ADSL cabimets or the future ADSL2+ cabinets? whats the capacity of each fibre ? I assume one fibre is TX and one RX. aprox how many ADSL connections in each cabinet?

Do you have any inside info on the status of upgrade work at SWO? Been delayed on the Telecom wholesale availability tool till Sept 11.

Regards Allen

Yep.

Been delayed several times, Telecom Wholesale availability tool shows ADSL2+ upgrade at SWO was recently pushed out from June to September.

I'm having big issues with packet loss and high latency during peak times to the point where VOIP is unusable some evenings. I like Xnets product and pricing, but doesn't look like there is much choice except wait for ADSL2+ upgrade, or maybe change to Slingshot. I'll probably wait.

Allen.

Any info on the timing of the SWO upgrade from "the horses mouth" so to speak would be helpful.

Many thanks, Allen.

Hi Got this response from Xnet (From Telecom wholesale)
'Have now confirmed the work request to increase the back on the SWO-DSLAM-01 has now been completed, looking at the traffic the node is no longer hitting threshold.'

Did speedtest.net, pingtest.net, winmeter and test calls to my VOIP voicemail every half hour last night from about 18:30 to 22:30 and it looked a whole lot better. (sample results below).

I've been down this road before, and the improvement didn't last for long. Hopefully it will last until the ADSL2+ upgrade at SWO.

I've also found a very informative voip test http://www.voipreview.org/voipspeedtester.aspx , but unfortunately there is no test server in NZ. Does anyone know of an NZ based Voip quality test?
Results lastnight from voipreview tests showed very little packet loss and jitter. The only problem was a "Continuity of service" rating which is probably due to the use of international  bandwidth

Karld991: lol yeah only has two fibres to it though,

Probably 10G ethernet on each connected link, and I thought there were 12 cores to most cabinets? That would allow for 6 links, and probably support 2 or 3 different chassis inside the cabinet. Sounds like they confirmed your congestion issue and fixed it, don't know why Telecom can't provision backhaul more proactively...

Time to find a new industry!
