Ok, so after signing up on the 2nd, got a text and email at 4:00PM on Friday the 6th:

Site visit booked for Monday 9-10AM - please ring to confirm.

Rang - on hold for 10 minutes, guy answered then I was hung up on. Sigh.
Rang - on hold for 10 minutes, cut me off while on hold. Sigh.
Got home, rang - outside of our business hours. Sigh.

They rang me on Saturday to confirm date and time - confirmed. All Good. Sounds like install is booked for Thursday the 11th.

Monday Morning, I had a dentist visit at 9:30, so hung around until 9:20, noone showed. Explained to my wife what needed to happen.

Got back at 9:50, no show. Rung the number again.

10 minutes on hold, confirmed booking, they contacted Tech. Apparently he had van trouble and wasn't available. Very apologetic and they are trying to find someone else.

All understandable - but annoying.

So a friendly installer popped by yesterday and said they could do today.

They are currently at my house attempting to blow the fibre through existing ducting (which they said might not work).

So ended up getting install 2 days early.

Awesome!

So installer was at home most of the day apparently tried a bunch of things to try and get the fibre through with no luck.

Went to East Tamaki to get a combined fibre/copper cable which they were going to pull through and replace the existing copper but on further inspection apparently this wasn't going to work either.

So someone will be coming to cut a trench in my driveway today or tomorrow.

Bugger. Good communication so far.

Apparently had I gone for a different provider they could have just ditched the copper and pulled the fibre through no worries. However not interested in changing provider.

Well, you've managed to get further than I have; the prequal database is showing UFB available at my address, but the order has been rejected due to it supposedly not being available. Apparently Chorus has two different databases!

Edit 11 Dec: Got past that roadblock :)

The footpaths in my street have just been repaved by the council for the first time in 15 years. They are pristine, so I think the diggers must be coming soon for our UFB rollout ;-)

So apparently concrete cutting needs further approvals - so been delayed.

Outside install will be done by Wednesday - inside install Wednesday afternoon.

Concrete cutters rang this morning at 8:30 - were onsite at 9:00.

Will take some photos when I get home. Now just have to wait until inside install next Wednesday.

So how did you get things sorted - the Chorus map for us says 'UFB fibre up to 200 Mbps latest forecast date Nov-2014' still, and we're probably about a dozen houses away from you. I've emailed Chorus, and it seems to be at the 'thanks for letting us know, we'll get back to you stage'.

I got my ISP to do a manual prequal and it came back positive. It looks like they just haven't updated the map yet. I'll keep you posted with any progress :)

Thanks, will also let you know if I hear anything further - emailed Chorus early on Tuesday, don't know how long it'll take. Thought about asking for a prequel thingy, but still trying to decide whether to stick with Spark, which would no doubt be the least trouble, or saving a bit each month (which can actually add up a bit) and trying out Snap, or My Republic, or Unlimited Internet, or Full Flavour, hmmmm

Snap and Full Flavour aren't available here (which makes the decision a bit easier!)

I've never heard of Unlimited Internet.

Well don't know about Snap! who seem tempting (though the 2 year contract puts me off a bit), but Full Flavour have said they'd be OK with Eastern Bay installs, and Unlimited Internet seem to be available, though haven't made any kind of formal request to them to find out for sure, and UFB 100/50 for $95pm sounds good to me (and yes I am cheap).

Interesting; the site only mentions Tauranga so I made an assumption.

Checked Chorus map again just now and still get the same 'UFB fibre up to 200 Mbps latest forecast date Nov-2014', so I checked it on Sparks address checker and it says UFB is available, thinks yay. Checked every other provider I could think off and the only other provider who also says UFB available is Slingshot. Hmm. Maybe they use different Chorus databases, as Behodar said.
