The problem with this survey is that people tailor how much they use depending on what plan they are on and what they can afford.

Big-Time is hard to rack up much data with since the traffic management doesn't allow for any fun at all :/

I could easily manage with 100GB. You can see mine has flucuated, but I know I could easily manage with a 100GB cap right now (family of 3-4).

Things I could do without, that I do do a lot of:

-Live streaming
-Lots of Internet radio streaming (of course, I also use the higher bit-rates etc)

It's common to not count upload data in AU, it's kind of weird we're charged for it here. ADSL is asymmetric so upload is always slower than download and typically ISP's buy symmetric bandwidth to upload is never fully utilised.

Last 4 months on Big Time

Hmm, I must be doing something wrong, or not utilising the 'net as best I could, I hardly get over 10 gigs per month, and that's if I consciously unconscientiously torrent a movie or two :-) Dang kids are so rough with DVD's ,,,

Probably if I have a direct connection between the PC and TV I would probably use TVNZ's OnDemand, Youtube etc more often. Probably even give up Sky and put the money towards a larger cap. Some have mentioned doing this in the recent Sky worth having thread.

This is what I've used on Big Time, and Go Large before that (if still on there, forget when we switched)
Uploads increased on BitTorrent when the upstream data rate was uncapped.

Either way, I wouldn't call my usage exceptionally high either.

I would be happy with $50 for 50GB (or cheaper!)

But Telecom only do a 40GB for $80, so it's just stupid...

My Bigtime usage over the past year. I don't think I go overboard, and I know my speeds are as good as I can get. Something with a 80-100gig cap would suit me I think.
I had one splurge in the last month, and downloaded 25 gig in 3 1/2 hours. I can get fullspeed (2MB/sec) 24/7 if I want

Jump on ustream and watch some stuff on twit.tv - watch some of the other live shows.

Interactive ones where you can skype in etc.

All the future of things - all being held back by data caps.

People need to stop thinking of gigs as being large usage. Remember when adsl came out with 400 and 600 meg caps so noone bothered, well now its like that again except there is no alternative to having it since you cannot function properly in todays society without it.

The ones that will hurt the most are those with kids who have never known a time when you had to think about what data you were using and need the internet for school.

I live in an apartment with six others (fairly tech savvy and internet enthusiasts):

Telecom Bandwidth Usage

I have made sure to squeeze as much as I could out of my connection and in the last two months have been pushing to see how far I could actually go.

I really don't care for justification of bandwidth use; if it is given to me I will make use of it. I personally thought it was a bad move selling 'Big Time' for such a low price. Something like $110 (making internet & homeline rental ~$150) would have been a wiser move. That way Telecom could have had a lot more room to purchase extra bandwidth for the obvious horde of customers they were going to attract.

I simply do not understand the business case behind charging low prices for a premium product then shafting your customers and blaming them for being 'vampires'.

This thread makes me feel inadequate with my 5GB capped plan which is always maxed out (occasionally doubling to 10GB, maybe twice a year) with 3 of us using it :-(
