I ended up buying the Zyxel last year because of the problems with the 130 Draytek. It's been steady as a rock and I can't remember the last time I needed to reboot the thing. Getting 45+ down and around 8 up most of the time - sometimes better.

I would however be interesting to compare the two on the same line, on the latest firmware. Anyone up for it? :)

My guess is that it's going to be pretty similar if your are already getting 45/8 speeds. That suggests you are pretty close to your exchange. I think the real test of performance comes when you see how they perform over longer distances and poorer quality lines.

Do you live in Hamilton? Latest firmware is sooo much more stable than the shipped firmware.

Uptime of about a month so far, with only one disconnection earlier on.

Now to just make my router a bit more stable~~

For the life of me, I can't get bridging to work on a mikrotik (PPPoE scan shows nothing on the interface). Followed the guide to the letter, anything else obvious I'm possibly missing?

Ok, done a bit more playing around. Wouldn't be recommending the router to anyone just yet. Am running the latest firmware (3.7.5 at time of writing). Few observations:

1) Router has randomly rebooted several times. Not just dropped VDSL, actually full blown rebooted. In the past 24 hours Mikrotik logs show the interface I have it connected on go up and down (so Draytek rebooting) half a dozen times. I can't tie it to any specific event (although a few of those times it's happened just as I've started browsing), seems random.
2) When changing config options, it forgets the VLAN Tag insertion setting. You have to change the other settings first, then go back to this. Seems to work when it's set, but annoying.
3) Can not get PPPoE pass through/bridging working at all:
3a) This guide from the supplier is pretty straight forward. Followed it identically multiple times, after resetting to the factory configuration, no dice. Bottom of guide says "Set up a PPPoE client on the LAN side of the DV130 with your ISP credentials." - All well and good, but doing a PPPoE scan with Mikrotik doesn't display ANY service on the interface.
3b) Rather than following that guide, if I just enable the "PPPoE Pass-through" option on the "Internet Access >> PPPoE / PPPoA" settings page, the PPPoE scan shows a service, but I can't actually make it work.

Pretty interested to hear from anyone else who has the router actually working in bridge/PPPoE Pass-through mode. What firmware are you on? What specific settings etc? After a good experience with the 120, was hoping for the same with the 130. So far, no dice.

hey mate, mine has been really awesome and no reboot or crash at all since I set it up. btw, try this option. this works on me (the original instruction didn't work for me too)

byronpaul: Try setting as 1483 bridged IP LLC & then clicking the bridge button. Retry you PPPoE initiator.
I've seen 1 x case where this was required over the last week for a Telecom VDSL connection. No previous reports on Snap circuits.

NOTE: Clicking the bridge button has no effect when using IPoE.

great! glad I could help, btw, the original instruction works on some isp for some reason it won't work on Telecom and Bigpipe and we need to make some minor changes.

Right. I'm on Snap. Really wanted something that could do bridging so binned the Fritz!box. Instantly got a 15% higher sync rate too which I found surprising.

Well I've had a similar experience to you and just made this change to LLC. I've had three drops in six days of uptime. I'm also with Snap and am bridging to an Asus RT-N16 (Tomato), which was previously working flawlessly with a Vigor 120. Very frustrating to have this in the first week of my connection.

If I can get through 48 hours without the 130 dropping off, then I'll consider this a success.

Have you just moved to VDSL? I've just moved house and took the opportunity to start with the Draytek (tested it at the old house before moving, hence sync rate change above), I'm wondering if the disconnections are actually DLM doing it's thing and it'll stablise after the 10 day DLM period.

I've had probably a dozen drops now since being connected around lunchtime on Friday.

Yes, been on VDSL for nearly a week. I wasn't aware that the line is supposed to reconnect over that 10 day period, but I don't really know much about that topic. Seems early morning is when I've had the reconnections.

This thread wins. Check the DYNAMIC LINE MANAGEMENT (DLM) section.

I don't know if it's normal for the entire router to reboot like what is happening with the Draytek, and I'm only assuming (or hoping) it's DLM. After the 10 day period we'll find out...

^ That sounds like it could be an explanation for what I'm seeing.
I guess in the worst case scenario, you can always request a fresh start after you've gotten everything stable.

FYI...

Draytek Vigor 130 at FW 3.7.1.3 connected to Asus RT-AC66R running DD-WRT on SNAP VDSL in central auckland.

Current uptime is 16 days and accounting (last reboot was because I had to move cables around and unplugged the Draytek).

Sync rate is reported as:

Connected : Down Stream : 57440Kbps / Up Stream : 10332Kbps

Snap VDSL Results

Feeling pretty good about that...not going to touch the firmware.
