Is it possible to purchase prioritised data on the depriortised plan in GB chunks?

If yes, is the prioritised data you buy valid for roaming?

The reason I ask is I have starlink on my van and unpause my starlink roam plan as I head out, then pause it when I'm back home. Ideally I'd switch to starlink at home and then buy roaming data in GB chucks as I don't need a lot of data on the road.

Here are some SamKnows speed results for a friend's dish. In a friendly challenge, would anyone like to guess when the dish transitioned to a deprioritised status? (I'll reveal the actual date tonight.)

12th of March would be my guess.

Same. Though its pretty hard to tell as earlier had some outliers too. But does seem a downward trend in performance started around then. What I do take from the graph is over time the average performance is degrading and you are seeing a wider spread of results. Presumably as more move to it. Its a small window size though.

Guess who lives in the one single waitlist hex in the whole country. Guess its not meant to be. Anyway the fibre has been rock solid since they have stopped working in the street all the time on it so probably dont need something right now.

Fibre will always be significantly superior to any other connectivity method

Yes but it is a single point of failure. The starlink is ideal as a backup connection as it will not have everyone piling onto it if there is an outage like what happens with mobile data.

The transition date was the 23rd.

If anyone is interested in the longer term trends, I've uploaded a graph showing the speeds over 2 years for a dish on the std plan.

Not sure if you've been on the Starlink NZ Facebook page but there are so many people who state Starlink is better than Fibre because the local Fibre can go down like it did in Gisborne. They'll also argue it's faster ugh.

Changed over on 23rd March so waited a few days to post this.. No noticeable change in service here. (Close to Hastings Hawkes Bay, Gen 1 dish using ethernet and my own router and Google wifi mesh).

My SamKnows box shows a bit of a temporary drop - but nothing I haven't see before, The SamKnows is plugged in ahead of any network.

I was led to believe that form day 1 the Standard plan was 100 down - and the figures of 250 or 350 or more are just the potential speeds that you could get (which show up when you first connect up and for the first few days - until you are throttled down).

Or am I wrong?

The longer term graph is also inconclusive...

I haven't been throttled to 100Mbps.  Wondering if there could be an issue somewhere causing a GigE connection to revert back to 100Mbps? Previously, when I used a Fritzbox as my Starlink router, the ethernet would intermittently downgrade to 100Mbps despite my efforts to disable all power-saving features on the Fritzbox.  Faulty cable could also cause this.

Sure look like something is reducing your speed to 100 MBit, especially since the variation in your speed plot is much smaller than what others see. Over the same period as your monthly plot, using a Gen 1 dish in Tasman, SamKnows gives speeds around 240 MBit (and has done for the 2 years I've had it). I also changed to deprioritized on 23 March with no noticeable difference so far.

Just pulled the trigger with the deprioritised plan as I live out in the whop whops where there is no fibre - Spark is good, but I have seen to many disconnects over the last few months.

I've taken the Samsknows "time of day" data and made a graph showing the trends for the 13 days before and after the transition. The Easter holidays likely played a part in dragging down the deprioritised speeds a bit. We'll probably get clearer results in a month or two.

pretty good on d.plan. - this was on the standard mount out on the grass. Mounting it tonight and routing it to its permanent position. But so far happy.

Hi. Just a very slight change of subject. I am on the $79 plan and it is going well. However, about a week ago I noticed that dishy is now pointing north. An exact 180 degree change of direction. Still goes fine, in fact seems better. Have been getting latency in the high 20s quite often. As I am at the bottom of the South Island, seems crazy that it is not pointing south to use those satellites that are way out at sea with no one using them. People on Facebook are reporting a change to north for some people. Seems to be mainly people in the South Island but not a scientific survey!
Any comments?
A neighbour who has his dishy stuck on the ground on the south side of the house not impressed. I told him months ago it was a bad idea. Went like rubbish until he dragged it further away from house.
