Everything's going well - though slow, which is alright, because time will stretch out the kinks (on the graphs)

Currently have around 65 records... it goes on.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Updates:

Spreadsheet (Google login required, otherwise see this)

Graph: (click for enlargement)

All records includes all records (duh..)

There is around 5 Cable records, which is kind of the reason behind the flatness of the orange line.

ADSL is only ADSL1, and does not include ADSL2+.

How many do you plan on getting? You'll need A LOT to glean any useful information from this, mostly due to the fact that you're using shared hosting (on Dreamhost, no less), which means speeds are going to be very variable. Also, due to the high latency, connections are influenced a lot by each user's TCP window size settings. In other words, there are tons of variables.

Most importantly, however, is that this is a very bad test for determining international bandwidth issues. A single threaded download from a single, shared host with low bandwith is pretty much the worst case scenario. It would be much better even if you just had dedicated hosting, with a decent pipe, and set it up to optimise for high latency connections.

The only thing you can reliably determine from this test is international bandwidth differences between individual ISPs and plans, which you aren't showing on your graphs (and even then, due to the reasons I mentioned above, it's not exactly optimal).

Anyway, didn't mean to beat on your thread, just making sure you don't read too much into the results.

Nothing is perfect - which I do realise.

I'm just using this as a basis for some simple surveying. If I really did need good results I would have to do a heck of a lot more for hosting and management, but I just don't have such resources.

At least the graph is pretty much like what we expected - though stretched by Orcon's previously slow speeds.
