timmmay: Vodafone having trouble with routing? I don't believe it! ;) Maybe it's like DNS, there's a delay between it being set up and it starting working.

Just gone live and checks are still been done,

How does it take Vodafone 5 months to get this live, when it took Callplus a couple of weeks?

afaik telecom still haven't done it either. i assume political. bigger companies move slower.

The physical side was done a while back from Vodafone but does it really matter?

It is currently on the cable side - working on the DSL/mobile side I am told.

Anyway, great success...

Seems its starting to tick over to dsl now, i visit a fair few sites behind cf, seeing auckland on one, atfirst i thought it was related to the fact that we run that site over ssl only, but not the case. ild say the changes are just catching up now..

Red traffic will cut over anytime (I thought it had will check tomorrow) and OT but we have a new POP up in Seattle and a new Akamai CDN cut over is happening as well

Akamai cutover i noticed a few weeks ago, forgot to mention it (Twitch VODs are served off akamai, so thats nice for twitch users.)

Yep seems all of my cloudflare active sites have jumped ship over now.

was doing a comparison last night off fdl downloads for a source engine based game, ALK vs SYD cloudflare performance was noticeably better - slight flaw in that testing is i dont have completely detailed stats to contrast against for SYD since i did recently do an overhaul of my local network and changed alot of the tcp setup for squid.

The more interesting value however for me (although not related to vodafone) was the fact that the ALK cloudflare nodes would obtain the data off our content server (Server is in SYD) a fair bit faster than the SYD nodes.

Keep up the good work on the peering VF.

i did some casual testing a while back. sydney performance seemed to go up and down a lot with small requests of simple pages. (giving 70 msec vs 35 msec or something) whereas auckland was reaslly consistent.

when requesting nz pages from US servers for cache misses performance seems a bit bad. and i have a feeling it's likely to be quite bad in EU...

I think for good page load performance for international audience really have to have a US server to get good performance with Cloudflare, as they pull directly from their origin caches. A long time ago before the Sydney server I found California performance slow and hated how sites were shifting to Cloudflare - this got fixed eventually. But I had a hack prior to push traffic to Texas where it was fast..

That said, there may be a few flaws still, but Cloudflare seems "okay" to me now. And it's quite good in the free level. And definititely seems to be forward looking, and growing in size. So I suspect it'll get better.

If you really want good web page performance you need a CDN that supports PUSH mode, and to push all of your larger files close to the user with long expiry times and renaming of assets rather than expiration.
