Hi guys. I live in Eden Terrace, which is central Auckland. Can you believe that no company can connet me to the local exchange, so I cant get a phone or internet?

Thats useless, my rates are paid and I expect to be able to be connected to ATLEAST a phone line. If the exchange is full, they either need to UPGRADE it (middle of auckland remember) or supply wifi hotspots (maybe telecom should expand their WIFI hotspots on their phoneboxes to include suburbs like mine) ,

Rant over, does anybody know a way around this, or an alternative. Im not really keen on getting a T-Stick or Woosh. Cheers

Did you check before you moved in?

I always used to check with telecom before choosing a new address.

Do you know if its because you have no copper or because you are on a port waiter list?

Orcon has its own kit in the Auckland exchanges, so if its a port waiter list we can probably help. If its because of no copper thats a different story.

Thanks for the  replies. Well its an apartment building. All the cables seem to be underground, which is why they probably havent upgraded in years. Im at 43 Virgina Ave Eden terrace. Ive been there since January (and its a work paid for apartment so I didnt ask questions about whether it could have a phone lol) and ive been on a list Vodafone put me on since January, and tetlecom said I cant even BE on a list. Ive used Woosh before in Wellington, not keen to go back to them really ?

That seems very strange, all the lines from that location are connected back to the main Auckland exchange (Mayoral or Airedale Street) which has plenty of capacity, so maybe it is a copper issue, if you PM us your apartment number we can look at this further.

"my rates are paid and I expect to be able to be connected to ATLEAST a phone line"

what do your rates have to do with anything? Rates don't pay for phone lines or other infrastructure like that.

lol enough about the rates. I didnt mean it as a factual comment. Like you said, i dont pay rent and therfore dont pay rates. I meant it more in the sense that "we all pay tax and rates and more tax and bills and etc etc and having a phone line is still too much to ask"..... just a rant :)

This situation, as reported. seems odd.

Have asked the Chorus Network Delivery Specialist in Central Auckland to take a look into this.

Will report back once we know what is going on here.

your taxes have nothing to do with phone and internet either, at least not POTS anyway.

You'd be almost on the corner with Charlotte Street? I know the area and I'm pretty sure there's a cabinet installed on the corner of Virgina Ave and Minnie street just around the corner from you about 100m away - give or take a few metres. I'm sure it only went in a couple of years ago.

Should be ADSL2, maybe VDSL2 as well?

Plus I think maybe another cabinet up Charlotte Street, towards New North Road... not exactly sure where that one is.
