Just noticed this pop up in my facebook newsfeed. http://terribletalk.co.nz/personal/phone-and-internet/

10GB and Home Phone starting at $0.00 per month (Including VDSL if i'm reading it correctly?)

Looks like they are part of "The Red-Dog Telecom Group". Anyone heard of them? Sounds a bit suss to me, even with the large connection fee they are going to be losing money from the get go.

You must have glossed over the not so fine print:

"If you use all your free data, don't worry we'll add an extra 20GB for $85.00"

I don't know anyone who uses less than 20GB per month these days, perhaps someone can find someone if they search hard and long enough, but it's reason to believe that this is going to be costing someone in increments of $85. Which is about the same as many of the unlimited + tolls plans on the market today.

great if you use <10GB/month, more expensive if you use over (so, for most people).

it's 5gb unless you have a family member signed up as well then its 10gb? wierd, also reading the information on the things to be aware of:

Our phone lines are a little different. They require a special phone, which we will provide, to connect to the network (this is covered in your signup fees and is therefore your property, unless the device is leased from Terrible).

The equipment will not work in a power cut as they require mains power to run. If you call 111 you may need to provide more information then normal, as 111 can not determine geographic information from our standard phoneline.

We advise those who need a working phoneline in a powercut to request one during signup

Sounds like Voip. and probably the cheapest possible

Plenty of Ma & Pa's that only use a few GB per month and don't make toll calls. Why do companies do stupid things like this, selling products below cost. It's not sustainable.

"free to connect" but there is a $250 sign up fee. "From 10gb" but then very well hidden "*Base allowance is 5GB your usage is doubled when two accounts you refer join the family."

Um.

Is it the commerce commotion that deals with misleading things like this? Seems they could have a field day with some of what I have read. They do printing and photography as well, I assume for free...

I like that their "Why Terrible?" link on this page comes up blank, maybe they can't think of a reason?

Additional:
Another thing I've noticed is the main advertisement says $0 per month for 10GB ADSL, VDSL or wireless - but then on the addons page is says it's an extra $15 for VDSL.

The director has his fingers in many many pies by the looks of things, using the brand "Terrible".
Huge chunk of terribletalk is "under construction.

Oh good lord, what is it with people finding such dodgy random ISP's - stick with one of the established players and you'll have a lot less issues. At this stage most of what I see entering the market are people thinking they can make a quick buck then leave the customer high and dry but alas there is always some cheapskate who thinks they can said $5 month by going to the dodgiest ISP's because of 'low prices'.
