A friend of mine is on a waiting list and getting adsl from his neighbour half a km down the road via wifi link, the neighbour is connected to the conklin at the top of the road, (Jordan Road, Kaukapakapa), sync speed approx 7.5mbits down 900kbits up adsl1. Recently the broadband has been so unreliable its just useless trying to do anything on it, even in the early hours its bad so we're assuming its the backlink on the conklin or something else. It used to run quite reliably with obvious slow downs during peak hours, but recently its just not worth paying for anymore. According to slingshot, chorus has been messing with the "profiles" hence one month was waived off the bill due to the very poor service. What im wanting to know, is it possible to get connected directly to the Kaukapakapa exchange? The distance is 9km directly to the exchange, but im assuming chorus has policies in place, like with vdsl and will reject a connection, even though it could possibly work but with a very slow sync speed.
The other option is a wifi link to shelly beach directly across the kaipara harbour, does anyone know if shelly beach is fed with fibre or that place fed with conklins too?
