Was ringing up Xtra about a e-mail problem and it seems even though their network status message online says everything is sweet, that they have a major broadband outage nationwide because of a switch failure starting at 7AM.

I'm in parnell and arn't having any problems, and can connect via XNET to Xtra's e-mail servers so don't know how widespread this is, or what it's affecting, or if it's been fixed, but the helpdesk guy seems to think it's still a huge problem and affecting lots of people.

My call did get dropped half way though to him while troubleshooting something else, so who knows.

From the NZ Scanners list this morning at 9:01AM

Telecom has suffered a major outage on their ATM network.
The Fire Service has no paging in Auckland, and no inter-ComCen links -
meaning no ICAD database links. In some locations ambulance radios are
out. All Telecom's managed IP services (OneOffice, etc) are down. Impact
on Police and NIA unknown.

Looks like a sweating bullets day for Telecom engineers
