I typically have a crap connection usual stats are around 1000-1400kbps down on a good day.

Came home 30mins ago and its gone up to 2816kbps down. Line attenuation is 57db noise margin is 7.6

Thats with the aid of dmt tool. but my slow sync was also using dmt.

Im guessing Chorus have changed something? I know its still a slow connection But there's a very noticable difference between 1000 down and 2800 down!

Or it's cable noise related. My neighbour nicked the phone cable serving this end of the street when he put his fence posts in and for a while we had to put up with noisy lines every time he watered the garden.

I emailed chorus and recieved a confirmation that no work had been done in my area.

Im on my second modem. Have done the simple tests that Telecom advise. Had Chorus install a splitter.

The Chorus contractor told me my line was capable of 1200kbps max

What could explain the sudden and short lived double in speed?

"The Chorus contractor told me my line was capable of 1200kbps max"

Pshhh and you believed that. I have two modems here one is an siemens speedstream 4200 and it syncs at

2592kbps down / 768kbps up has an attenuation of 50db and a snr of anywhere between 0.5db and 13db (dont ask i dont know)

the other is an (Vodafone supplied) Huawei SmartAX MT882 which will sync at

4650kbps down / 790kbps up and has an attenuation of 56db and snr of between 5.5db and 6.0db

but has the problem of very regular drop outs when snr falls to low for some reason

so i know my line is cappable going faster so why doesn't it do it all the time, well your guess is as good as mine and at the moment its tending toward compatability problems with modems and in-exchange equipment. But i certainly wouldnt believe that its as fast as you line can go unless your at or very close to the 6.5KM mark from the exchange or your lines are as old as oldman river
