It is possible the storm has fried my nice Fritzbox 7590, initially it just completely stopped but I coaxed it into working enough to do a reset, but it is not connecting to the DSL cabinet.

Any tests that can be done to check the physical line to the cabinet is working ?  Other than the suspect modem the only tools I have are a real corded phone and a multimeter :-)

More likely water in a joint on the line somewhere.

EDIT: Roughly where are you? Someone may be able to lend you a modem to test. Also, check the Chorus site for copper outages in your area. https://www.chorus.co.nz/outages

I'm up in Mangawhai ... luckily I managed to find my old Fritz Box in the depths of the garage!  It has the same issue, no xDSL connection being made, so I'm fairly sure it is a "not me" problem :-)

Now to wait for Chorus to come and look.

Thanks for the offers, much appreciated!
