I thought they just increased it last year?

Until April 2027, you’ll enjoy these faster speeds at no extra cost. Before your speed upgrade ends, we’ll be in touch to discuss your options going forward.

Current average up and down speeds*

New average up and down speeds*

Not sure who you are with, but 500/100 has been standard for a long time now.

err,

Entry was 50/10, then Chorus bumped it all to 100/20  and moved 300 to 500, but its never been the base level

It's crazy the value we get in NZ on internet connections.

No-one in their right mind could continue referring to our internet as third world. We would be up there amongst the fastest in the world for home users for sure.

We have come a long way from dial up and ADSL.

They did. Is that email from your ISP trying to tempt you off a 'budget' plan?

Edit: BTW. The std plans went from 300 download to 500- can't remember the upload increase.

As someone who has previously been a vociferous critic, yeah NZ's broadband has improved remarkably.. always room for further improvement (and price drops), but we have it much better than we used to. My only real major gripe left is that the LFC's are for profit companies rather than community trusts that return all profits back to their communities (ala various lines trusts etc)

Now if only we could get mobile into a similar place..

If lower priced plans are sped up, do accounts already paying more for the faster speeds get their prices automatically adjusted downwards?

I believe the existing 500Mbps (higher planer) got moved to 880Mbps.

Speeds that most home user wouldn't even come close.

I appear to still be getting 500/500 however it is a Spark Business plan...

500/500 seems to still attain 500/500 as reported by Ookla no matter what is happening within the household. Watching Netflix, YT and listening to Spotify doesn't even scratch the surface.

It won't you only need 15 Mbps or higher for 4K streaming.

It takes a lot.

I disagree on pricing. More money is welcome in my pocked, however, we have a long history of under investing in maintenance, and I would rather pay some extra each month and know we have a top quality program for continuing to maintain this standard, than go back to the bad old days of having my internet impacted by heavy rain and other 'normal' conditions.

Dialup used to keep increasing in  speed as technology advanced. It used to be exciting haha

I have zero problem with money being used for maintenance, I do have a problem with an infrastructure monopoly making profits for anyone other than it's consumers.

In the case of Chorus and the other LFC's the customer is the RSP's.

And if you had bought Chorus shares a couple of months ago you would also be looking at a tidy little gain :-) and unlike a bunch of other NZX listed companies, Chorus have been paying dividends.
