This is great news. When do you think other ISPs start offering new broadband deals?

My prediction is that within 6 months Annette Presley & Slingshot will be the biggest winners. They have the money and existing infrastructure to offer ULL circuits complete with VoIP home lines.

Telecom didn't say anything when I spoke to them earlier...

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Bruce Parkes was speechless and wasn't trying to deny the whole thing had really happened? I guess there is a first for everything!

John Goulter and TG are in Sydney, but they didn't want to say anything. Bruce was rushing to catch a flight up to Auckland, probably to on TV... other PR people giggled hysterically and said "no comment."

Wonder how much they knew? Telecom has already pulled the plug on rural DSLAM deployments, so I'm guessing they had an inkling about what was up.

3 News just reported the announcement was not due today but the decision was apparently leaked to Telecom from within parliament hence the need to officially announce it.

Telecom shares have dropped 7.4% on the ASX since the announcement.

very interesting times.
MTR regulation decisions are to follow and Cunliffe has shown some of his critics that he is prepared to make the decision he see's is best and possibly ignore/avoid too much external influence from telecom (albeit the cynic will argue that it is influence from their competitors that may have influenced the decision).

3 news reported that the decision was made at cabinet and subsequently leaked to telecom and this fast tracked the announcement.

Are you implying something? The announcement was made after the closing of the stock market (in NZ).

Yeah, but it was leaked apparently. Be interesting to see if any Telecom executives dumped their shares.
