Well I will remove myself from this thread as we have been deemed as an essential service thus making me work from our branch to support the transport industry basically.

Yes i am serious. The phrasing in several areas implies no contact - including online - and all businesses to close, with no exclusion for those who can work from home.

 

 

Do you even understand WHY we are in a lockdown? Honestly man, just use your brain for a moment.

 

You can't give someone Covid 19 remotely. It's about limiting the spread of the Virus.

 

Why would they be preventing people from working from home? How do you think Payroll will happen, bills get paid?

Totally agree. My issue is that the information is confusing, open to interpretation, and often contradictory.

 

I'm fully expecting legal challenges - eg The Warehouse.

We've been deemed essential as well, but still working from home. Office is available, but don't see anyone going there.



My day to day job can be done from home easily enough however our core business is in the supply chain so someone needs to be onsite to provide these goods which unfortunately cannot be done from home, I’m it as the operational manager for the entire South Island so I have put all my staff into lockdown and I will run all logistics myself to prevent any potential viral spread by running a rostered skeleton crew.

I've been working from home for years, first time I've set up a proper space to do it in this house though.  Went alright today, despite being so crazily busy I haven't even looked out the window I was stoked to have beside me.

I certainly don't intend stopping from working at home. For me the shutdown actually gives a chance to catch up on some things that need to be completed.

Is anyone else in the same boat as my wife and I, where we have a 2 (nearly 3) year old daughter that basically requires non stop attention and both parents work full time in IT (me) and IT/telco (her)?

At the moment we're doing half days, so one of us looks after her in the morning then the other in the afternoon. Neither of us have enough leave to sustain this for 4 weeks though, so at some point will have to start taking sick/domestic/unpaid leave :|

 

The annoying thing is that at both our work places/teams we're the only ones in this situation as other's have kids much older and able to look after themselves, without sitting them in front of a TV. So to them, it's just BAU they have no issues working from home with their kids.

 

With my job I already work from home, so I'm used to it, but I can see my wife is getting more stressed by the day as our daughter is already bored not being at preschool..

I feel your pain - it is very difficult situation. At least we have a slightly older one that can entertain the younger sometimes...

You've obviously never been involved in a work place issue where lawyers took apart some very similar wording. I thankfully wasn't one of the parties involved other than spending a lot of time performing digital forensics.

 

Most of the wording they have published has never ever been thru a lawyer and as such is open to a lot of interpretation. Common sense goes out of the window in our current situation.

    Where possible, essential workers need to make their own arrangements for childcare, due to limited capacity.
    We know this will not be possible for everyone. Alternative arrangements have been made so essential workers can access childcare and continue to work.
    Your employer will tell you if you qualify as an essential worker for these purposes.

    Making your own arrangements is the preferred approach. We encourage you to use your existing networks for in home care, for example a neighbor, relative, friend or current carer/nanny who can come to your house, or provide childcare in their own home.
