I see that home premium cant accept incoming RDP connections..??? so whats a good alternative?

Tight VNC? Or is there another way around it?

I believe for RDP to work,

- it must be enabled of course..
- a static IP with port forwarding setup to that IP...

And the safe way to do it is to create a ssh tunnel right?

What are you guys doing? I want to be able to access my machine at work or from my laptop on a wifi public connection,

Cheers,

I just install LogMeIn around. No need to have static IP addresses, no need to open ports on firewalls, no need to forward ports on routers.

looks like gotomypc.com.... but its over 100 bucks. I'm sure with some effort I can do this on the cheap.

Yes, there's the free version, which I use everywhere - except on the Geekzone server which I use the IT Reach version.

You could enroll for the Tech Preview of Microsoft Mesh www.mesh.com which provides a very nice RDP like connection.

You can actually enable RDP incoming connections in home premium with a few hacks, though only if you're comfortable with registry editing
