Hi there

I have an issue when attempting to use the youtu.be shortcuts on Windows 10 desktop/laptop, Android phone/tablet.

e.g. For youtube shortcut (https:/youtu.be/8g18jFHCLXk) I get

This site can’t be reached

youtu.be unexpectedly closed the connection.

Try:

ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED

However if I use the youtube full version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g18jFHCLXk) it works ok, taking you through to Youtube and showing the video.

Same thing occurs in Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge.

On Android phone or tablet, clicking on the link from an email initiates the Youtube app and it plays ok. But if I copy the link to Chrome, I get the same issue.

Have tried rebooting the router/ONT, PC, clearing browser cache but no change so far. Any ideas t try next?

Thanks

Cliff

Which ISP? Are you using a third-party DNS provider?

Could it be your antivirus or something along those lines (I have no expertise in this space. Just guessing things)? I just tested all of those links through chrome on main PC and on iPhone XR with Safari & Youtube app. No issues.

Computer has Kaspersky Total Security, Chrome has AdGuard Adblocker + uBlock Origin extensions. iPhone has Blokada. That's about it. Just using standard Slingshot wifi.

I have Youtube premium. Doubt that makes a difference?

Works fine for me. Slingshot Fibre, Auckland, Firefox, no YouTube Premium.

Using standard Vodafone fibre. NO DNS provider, VPN or proxy setup.

Using Kaspersky Security Cloud on desktop, Windows defender on laptop. Temporarily pausing Kaspersky and disabling all browser extensions didn't change anything. Wouldn't think it was that due to the same behaviour on Android devices.

Should have said it's multiple Youtube links, not just the one example. Not logged into Youtube. Using latest versions of all browsers.

No idea why but it seems their DNS is resolving youtu.be to 203.96.208.40 (protect.vodafone.co.nz)

Maybe use third party DNS for now.

Thanks Yitz. Yes, changing my DNS settings to use Google public DNS has fixed it.

Lurker - Are you on Vodafone too?

I've reported it to Vodafone, so we'll see what happens.

Looks like Vodafone have fixed this issue as it's now working for me without setting the Google public DNS
