The HTC/OKTA Touch is EVDO rev a and GPS capable, it is just a matter of when the rom update will be released that supports the feature.

Any hints to when it will be released, and how do you obtain Telecom licensed ROM's that will not brake warranty?

There's no GPS on th OKTA Touch. A new ROM was made available in the US for Sprint to upgrade it to CDMA Rev A.

There was for the Sprint mogul - which also enabled GPS in the device, but no ROM upgrades for the touch, it is yet to come as they keep delaying it

The Sprint Mogul is equivalent to the HTC Titan. The TNZ Titan and OKTA Touch have different hardware and the OKTA does not have GPS built-in.

And I am moving this to the Windows Mobile forum.

Its in the Touch's chipset, msm7500, it does have GPS and it is widely reported.

They are giving a "Rev A" rom update at somepoint, and will be enabling GPS aswelll

My question is when will this rev a rom update be released?

and is there anyway to update my okta touch without voiding the warranty?

Some features in the chipset are not enabled at all in the hardware.

Sorry, I don't have any information that when we are going to release GPS Rom.
Our development team is working on it but I can't provide you any exact time
frame.

Moreover, we have already launched EVDO rev A network mode. It is fully
covered in most of the Auckland region. However, you won't be able to use the
EVDO rev A network on your Okta Mondo because its hardware doesn't support
that network. Its hardware is compatible with the 1X mobile broadband network
mode.

I just updated my touch to enable GPS using the instructions on ppcgeeks.com, The OKTA touch ROM is almost identical to the sprint ROM (even has Sprint info in places) so just follow the sprint upgrade thread instructions. The GPS is a bit flakey but it does work and the touch does have GPS hardware.

I have just completed an upgrade using this page. The only trap I fell into was trying to do the upgrade at step 10 before flashing with the ALLTEL ROM. You must load the ALLTEL ROM first.

Otherwise, all went well and I now have an Okta Touch running WM6.1 with an operational GPS!

Thanks for prompt reply. I have had a deep conversation regarding this with
senior management. As advised earlier Okta is not the same as HTC because Okta
is designed specifically to the NZ market and the GPS is either disabled or
removed from Okta Touch, as for now there are no plans for Telecom to release
a new ROM specifically for GPS. If there are going to be any plans, customer
would be notified.

You may follow whats on http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24979 but
that is more likely to void the warranty and no support for that.

Gosh, Okta is out of touch. The whole Windows Mobile distribution is broken. Microsoft relying on operators to distribute updates is simply not happening.

Be very careful upgrading your okta touch (htc vogue) to enable the GPS. Before you do it, write down the HDR authentication password, available in the EPST menu under security, (unlock code is ******). Upgrading the radio will wipe this password, you will only have 1X data and Telecom won't help you!
